Alvin Kamara: Colleges inquire about Alabama RB transfer

By Michael Carvell

Alvin Kamara, the AJC’s Mr. Football for 2013, announced on Twitter that he was transferring from Alabama last weekend.

It’s still early, but Kamara has already generated some interest.

Clemson, Oklahoma State, UCLA and Arizona have put out feelers about Kamara, according to a person close to the situation.

“One thing now being looked at is whether or not he can enroll at another school for this semester. It may be too late. If so, then he’ll look at doing that in the summer.”

The former Norcross High School running back signed with Alabama over UGA last February. He got off to a rough start with the Crimson Tide, undergoing knee surgery in preseason practice, and then being suspended at least twice from the team during the season.

According to multiple reports, Kamara was granted a release to transfer to any non-SEC school.

Kamara could still play at an SEC school but he would have to attend a junior college to do that.

He could also be eligible to play next season if he decided to enroll at an FCS school (formerly NCAA Div. I-AA).

If Kamara transfers to another FBS school, he will have to sit out one season due to NCAA rules, unless he makes a successful hardship appeal.

He can't transfer to an SEC school without going to JUCO first.  That would leave him 2 years of eligibility left.  If he goes that route then he might actually end up a Dawg.  It'll be interesting to see what happens.

My my, what did he throw away going to Alabama. He could have been the "MAN" at UGA but Saban's recruiting was just to big a lure for the fish not to take. Reminds me of the fellow from Columbus. But he has an affinity for guns.

I hope the young man the best except if or when  he plays the Dawgs.

I'm like CTBigDawg "you can NEVER have enough game breakers"

And from what I seen he is an elite talent on the level of Chubb's and Michel, but I wouldn't trade those Two for anyone in this yr or last yrs class. Both seem very mature and about their business.

Fellow Dawgs you can NEVER have enough game breakers as we learned again this past season when Gurley, Marshall, Scott-Wesley, Bennett and others got hurt and the Dawgs were short in both the Missouri and Vandy games.  I wish this young man success in where ever he lands and he realizes that future success lies in getting a good education first and sports second.

Go Dawgs

The fact that he signed with Bama when he knew they had so many RB's on roster shows he is not either that intelligent or thinks he is awesome.

Hardship appeal?  What's his basis for that going to be?  Getting cut at Alabama?

I'm sooooo glad Alvin picked Bama over UGa!!! I didn't think that last year, but there is no way he is as good as Sony or Chubb.......and we would have likely missed on one or both of those guys if Alvin was in Athens. I wish him the best, but I'm no longer fretting about his decision last year.

@Preston2Chubb had the second highest SparQ rating in this class... he is a freak athlete.  He'll get on the field this year for sure.  Michel is quick...as quick a back as we've had.  We've had fast guys but not quick.  He'll get on the field as well.  The biggest factor will be how well they pick up pass protection.  Just as it was with Gurley and Marshall.

I'd still give JJ Green a look as a WR/back in the slot.  Develop a couple of jet sweep looks to throw at people.
