Lorenzo Carter on LSU trip and meeting new UGA coach

By Michael Carvell

Lorenzo Carter, the state’s No. 1 overall college football prospect, sat down the AJC on Tuesday for his first interview since this past weekend’s official visit to LSU.

Carter is a 5-star defensive end from Norcross High School.

Some of the topics:

  • How did Carter rank the LSU trip? (Hint: He didn’t give it a “10”)
  • Is LSU a serious player now?
  • Which SEC head coach will make an in-home visit with Carter on Wednesday?
  • When will UGA’s Mark Richt, Florida’s Will Muschamp and FSU’s Jimbo Fisher make in-home visits?
  • Carter already had an in-home visit with new UGA defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt. What was his impression of Pruitt? And, perhaps more importantly, what did Carter’s parents have to say about Pruitt?
  • Why is Carter moving this weekend’s official visit to FSU?
  • FSU is also recruiting Carter’s Norcross teammate, Myles Autry; Are Carter an Autry a “package deal”?
  • How much a difference would it make if UGA and Florida offered Myles Autry, too?
  • Which colleges are Carter’s favorites now? Is it still Florida and UGA?

SINCE YOU LAST CHECKED THE BLOG …

FROM OVER THE WEEKEND

BUT. THERE’S. MORE.

DID YOU SEE THIS?

Lorenzo Carter...an athlete with all of the tools to be an AA. But!...will he turn out to be another Alvin Kamara? Kamara has all of the tools but he has now been banished to JUCO because he couldn't follow the rules. Some of these kids think they are going to waltz into a University Football program and be a coddled idol like they were in high school. Not so! They are just another quality athlete that has to compete for playing time. If they can't handle that, they are gone.

I think I am going to faint - the Buckeye actually had a meaningful post ....

In all honesty, Carter shouldn't  go to Ga. He has a reputation of taking off on plays. Ga sure as hell will not put a fire under his butt. He needs a NIck Saban type. Like a lot of people, Carter is a little on the lazy side.

Can you imagine Brother motivating anybody? He puts his own fan base to sleep.

Funny how Ga people try to make Brother Richt sound like he actually has a plan.

He reacts to whatever the latest problem is.

He is not a deep thinker. But I will say this, he damn sure has you boobs fooled.

247 Sports is reporting that Kelly got the Defensive Coordinator job at Florida State. Pruitt can now get on with his staff.

How about the kid graduate, enroll in the school of his choice and actually get on the playing field - then talk about his performance.

Until then, get a life. You are fawning over a high school kid.

Sick.

I am very impressed with Lorenzo Carter.  He seems like a very bright and fine young man.  I hope he will come to LSU, but I wish him the best no matter where he goes.

All Mr. Carter is doing is repeating what L.S.U. , Florida , and Florida State Recruiter is telling him. They wouldn't lie to him would they?

My advice to Mr. Carter is to research which school has the most Defensive Linemen in the Pro's right now , if that is important to you.

I really want to watch this young man at UGA and then beyond in the NFL……...I hope he chooses to stay a lot closer to home for a few more years so friends and family can attend his games. He will have the rest of his football career in the NFL to be away from home in a far away city. Proud to be from the state of GEORGIA, home of the GEORGIA BULLDOGS !

Someone should let this kid know that UGA has more players in the NFL, and more defensive lineman in the NFL at this minute (more than LSU anyway).   If you want to talk about being prepped to play in the NFL one day, UGA beats LSU anyday...

Proud showing by Lorenzo Carter, Norcross High School, in the video - fine looking young man.  He is extremely well-spoken.

UGA NFL DL today, in all UGA NFL players' contracts now exceed one billion.

FSU and LSU do job of putting DL into NFL, gave 8.5 pretty good score LSU late to offer so not time to settle in on LSU decision while Les Miles is good time being around. FSU well basketball more important so that is delayed to Sunday and Jeremy Pruitt was DC at FSU where I met him, came in home basketball practice late but mom parents loved Jeremy Pruitt in home visit - might have sat down street till got there. Myles Autry not be his roommate Myles is horrible, Lorenzo says in video.  Should watch video.

The LSU coaches probably showed Carter film of Wingo, the DE that left early for the NFL and has the same body type and skills as Carter.  I am sure that made a very positive impression on Mr. Carter and his family.  And I have a feeling that Mr. Carter might be "wanting" to put some distance between himself and his mom's control.  Just an opinion based on Carter's comments.

Wonder how Saban will keep Kiffin within the rules. The guy pushes the edge a lot.

He needs to enjoy this while it last because in a few weeks it will be all over as far as individual spot lite and will turn to being a team member with a gag order like most Freshmen have on them. I hope Pruitt can convince him to pick Georgia without knowing who his Defensive Line Coach will be because F.S.U. would be crazy to name a Coordinator before National signing day and give Pruitt time to flip some Recruits from F.S.U.  Georgia has sent plenty of Defensive Linemen so that should not be an issue .

If anybody is listening up in Athens... do not tell Lorenzo he will be staying home to represent the state.  Do not try to dissuade him from going out of state.  Instead focus on the fact that the choice is his and that everybody he is talking to puts D-linemen in the NFL. Alot of them.  Sell him on why he can be a stand out at Georgia.  You will lose him if you try to sell him on "stay home".

LSU is the flavor of the week right now...something new, something different.  The official visit to Georgia will be huge.

I guess Alvin Kamara didn't give Bama a good word to Zo on his way out the door. I guess Bama will just have to get by with the #1 player in the country DaShawn Hand.

Playing it real close to the vest.  I don't blame him. The next two weeks will be a circus.

Doesn't sound like it matters which one he chooses as he said, I want a program that will put me in the NFL. Didn't say anything about getting an education, which we all know will serve him better in the long run. Sounds like a 3 and done.

That would be....."hired a good OC" in that last post....for offensive coordinator.

TampGator1

dawgeatdawg.....

If you did not know......Carter plays on the defensive side of the ball.  And Muschamp is fairly good at coaching that side of the ball....as is Lawing (would be Carter's DL coach) and Robinson.  And the DC is not bad either.  And by the way, if you have not heard, the Gators got rid of Pease and hired a good DC who is converting the offense to the spread, an offense that he ran fairly well at Duke and...by the way.....he also has a history of coaching up QBs and sending them to the NFL.  I would expect you will see a significant improvement in the play of Jeff Driskel this year running the spread offense, something he is far better suited to run.  But time will tell....but at least Florida does not have Pease running the offense any more.

And....by the way....I have already stated that I think Georgia is the preseason favorite to win the East and possibly win the SEC if they avoid injuries.

And....how many lines did I type without typing one homophobic term?

Unfortunately, he would also look good on that LSU DL and the recruits they have coming it.  As you Dawg fans say....it is going to be a dog fight to the end for Carter.  I am sure he is being pulled in many different directions right now.  Not sure why he is talking to the media either.  That is just making the decision tougher for him....for sure.  I am sure he would rather just be playing basketball right now.  Sounds also to me that the family will be a huge factor....especially the mom.....in where he eventually goes to play.  And I know the mother favors Georgia.  The father favors Florida.  Who knows....they both might compromise on LSU or FSU.

TampGator1
TampGator1

Yeah.....you got it right.  Florida as a football program....over.  Done with.  Must be why so many recruits are running away from the program right now.  Seriously, you really think that or just not thinking at all.  Forget that, I know the answer.

How long did it take you to come with that intelligent post?  5,6, 7, 8 or 10 hours on serious thinking on your part?  You blow me away with your PE degree from Gawga.

Sounds like a Georgia, Florida, and LSU battle now.....most likely in that order.  But Thomas Holley, the recent  DL flip from Penn State to Florida, says he is friends with Carter and he has been talking to him a lot lately about coming to Florida to make a great DL..... made up of:

DE WIllis

DT Clark

DT Holley

DE Carter

That would be a big time DL in the future for the Gators if it happened.  Hope it does.

I have noticed the exact same thing in my analysis of him.  Big guy, good speed, and has the size to be excellent, but his motor is not where it needs to be.  I think he'll end up at Florida, but Georgia still in the mix for sure.  I think Georgia will be fine without him, but you're comments sit right along with mine about Mr. Carter.

BillyDay
BillyDay

@Madkins1868 really.  LSU sent 11 early defensive juniors to the NFL last year plus two DLs this year.  Nine of them are still on NFL rosters.  How many did Georgia send. ?    LSU actually leads the nation in early NFL players going so you picked the wrong measuring stick for Carter to use.

By the way did you see what Carter had to say about LSU and how many Defensive linemen they have sent to the pros ?

Contractor1
Contractor1

Barkevious Mingo.  Even with a name like that he speaks very very well, just like Carter.  I believe LSU gets more out of their talent than Georgia does, and that LSU's quality of defensive lineman is better than Georgia's.  That's simply my opinion, and statistics could prove me wrong, but when you think LSU, you think defensive lineman.  You don't think that at Georgia, because most of those guys actually extract their talent in the NFL, whereas Georgia couldn't get it out of them for one reason or another.

I did not read it that way at all.  To the contrary I believe Lorenzo trusts his mom's judgment and said so.

@96JB  Well I bet he doesn't let Kiffin send any "hostesses" to take recruiting road trips.

NCDawg, this is the first, well thought out post I have ever seen from you.  You made very good points here.  Just like Saban is doing by showing these recruits the paychecks last years class signed for, you have to show them beyond their three or four years and prove you can get them there.  Loyalty is unfortunately leaving society today as people only want to get ahead, not fight, so the whole "stay at home" stuff doesn't work anyone, even though I think it should, it doesn't.  Excellent points you've made.

@TampGator1 Expect Roper to coach up Drieskel. At Duke, he coached two three star QB;s. Renfree who was drafted by the Falcons and Boone who scored on every possession in the first half against A&M. Maybe he can teach Drieskel how to read defenses, avoid sacks and ball protection.

Contractor1

I can't stand Florida, but what on Earth are you talking about?  Florida has one bad year and you say their years as a force are long over?  They won two National Championships in the last ten years.  How many has Georgia won?  They still recruit at a high level and have recruited better than Georgia if my memory serves me correctly.  Injuries plagued them, just like Georgia, so I wouldn't necessarily say they stink unless you're willing to admit Georgia stunk too.  Speak with some actual knowledge instead of with that thing three foot below the back of your head.

@TampGator1 He would also look good with Gaillard, Keyon Brown and what will likely be 2015 commit Trenton Thompson.

Leaving school early is a clear indication that student athletes attending LSU finished learning ALL LSU has to offer!!!!!!!

LSU football players are a lot like GT basketball players were several years ago!! One and done without attending a single class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
