Where’s Mark Richt recruiting today? Paul Johnson?

By Michael Carvell

You can find out where these guys are recruiting on the road by searching Social Media (Jason Getz/AJC)

Find these guys via Social Media (Jason Getz/AJC)

Where is UGA’s Mark Richt recruiting today? How about Georgia Tech’s Paul Johnson?

Thanks to Social Media, celebrity football coaches can hardly go anywhere without it being mentioned quickly on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook.

It was easy to track Richt’s movements last month because kids took pictures of the coach and instantly posted it on Social Media. For example, when Richt stopped by Greater Atlanta Christian to check on some underclassmen, the Gwinnett school’s official Twitter account felt the need to let everybody know.

The days of coaches sneaking into high schools to eyeball prospects without having rival colleges find out about it are long gone.

“I hear these things are happening on Twitter, but I don’t ever go and look for them and think ‘Wow, look at that,’” Richt told the AJC.

“Our recruiting guys, they know what are happening. I think they like the attention it brings. It helps make your program more relevant to the general public. It can trickle down to recruits and their families that it was a big deal that this or that coach was there. So if that’s a positive, that’s fine.

“But we’re not trying to do anything in secret. But I don’t think (other colleges) need Social Media to know where we’re at. There’s still enough of a little network of people that you still know just about what everybody is doing, although there’s much more (publicity) about it when you see the pictures.”

If you want to instantly find out where Richt is over the next three weeks, just type his name in the Twitter search bar HERE. You can do that for Paul Johnson, too, although he is much harder to find because both his first and last names are common names, unlike “Richt.”

SINCE YOU LAST CHECKED THE BLOG …

BUT. THERE’S. MORE.

Judging from CMR's travel itinerary it would appear that the UGA staff believes they have a full class for 2014 because he only visited today with 2015 recruits. That's just a view from the outside so who knows.

Why are the GT assts. wasting valuable time recruiting players that we cannot sign academically?

After all, the CPJ apologists have repeatedly claimed that academically we cannot sign the same players that "the Factories" do, yet we sure do seem to spend a lot of time chasing those same players.

I wonder will the CPJ apologists finally admit that they are wrong as to HOW MUCH our academics limits our ability to  recruit good players?

Doesn't Richt cancel things when the weather gets nasty?

I believe CPJ is doing an in home visit with a local recruit tonight.

Have we not heard anything on the hiring of new DL coach yet?

WDE, You dont comprehend things to well do you, must be a housing major. You have a top 10 recruiting class and you have nothing to show for it, i never mentioned Tech being relevant in football. God, and once again let me congratulate you on a great come from behind win, well you always have that state championship to hang your hat on.

Hey seems Tech had a big weekend for recruiting,  seems like Bilbo, Frodo and the whole gang showed up at the Flats. Its being reported that one of them named Bebo Slewfoot was able to bench press 125lbs....once. And another one named Haamo Stinkfoot ran the 40 yard dash in 3 minutes FLAT! Yes Sir the world of recruiting at Bug U is really heating up I'd say !

Paul Johnson and Ted Roof were supposed to meet with Myles Autry last night, but it was postponed because his Mother couldn't be there. I think it's going to be "a time to fish or cut bait" type of meeting.

In other words, it sounds like they will immediately offer the scholarship being held for Myles to someone else, if not accepted during the visit, as signing day is just around the corner.

I like what I've heard from JP so far, but he is just one person.... We need some great recruiters on the defensive side  of the ball, make no mistake about it ....especially at the DL position... I also wonder what  big time prospects are at GAC ? ....JP went right where the talent was, Tucker to scout current and underclassmen ...He seems to be a great asset to the program  (good evaluation, details, diligence,energy, confidence and a lack of arrogance & entitlement).Go Dawgs!

Sounds like they are going after Allen-Williams hard, and it ain't over just because of what his Mama said. It would be sweet to haul him in from Spurrier. The Dawgs will finish pretty well I believe. JP is just what the doctor ordered for the UGA program. Everyone on both sides of the ball are going to respond to the changes happening in Athens. The haters are going to be sorry, we are coming for you Roosters. The Georgia Bulldogs are going to send The Ole Ball Sack into retirement after 2014!

@MikeBanning  Shadell Bell is actually a pretty good student. He will qualify no matter where he goes. That doesn't mean that every player on Clemson's team is though. You are trying to pretend that GT fans have said that they couldn't ever possibly get any single recruit being recruited by a factory when it isn't really reality. Try a little harder next time.

@MikeBanning Why deny something that's true?   An offer is not a guarantee of a scholarship.   Also, one offer doesn't exactly prove your point; in fact, it disproves it, because we have to hit on a higher percentage than most schools around here.  Is there a particular part of that with which you struggle?

NCDawg

@WDE- it is a guarantee he is waiting on a couple of guys from the FSU staff that are probably going to interview for the DC job.  It's only been a week.  We acted so quickly that everybody's timeframe is out of whack.  We are seriously lucky that we aren't still waiting for word on who the DC would be, you know?

keendaddy

@WDE

UGA seems to be waiting on FSU to name a DC. Pruitt may want an old assistant from there to help here...

@gtcarydfirst it would be "too" well not "to" well . Second if your program is so bad that feel entitled to take shots at a program that beats you like a rented mule 11 of 12 years in a row then I'm really afraid you don't get it.. and thanks it was a nice touch to the end of the season.

@WDEAt least we dont have a top10 class and finish unranked and irrelevant. Tell me about how good your leg humpers are going to be next year. As 350 would say BBBwwwahaaaaa!

@JacketMan

Whenever PeeJay makes these "or else" demands to Recruits, it rarely works out well for GT FB.

After so many recruits constantly "slow-play" GT hoping for a better offer or dream offer to materialize, at some point CPJ has to realize that these recruits HATE his offense.

Update your tripe-option to something from the 21st century and maybe GT won't get slow-played by so many recruits.

NCDawg

@ruffdawg- don't worry ruffdawg, when the Garbage Can scavengers are in the attack gang mode that usually means they are living in terror of another humiliation... they can't deal with Georgia being better than they already are.  So they will try their best to diminish the coup that we executed in getting Pruitt.

Just wait... when the defense is better next year the line will be " with all that talent, how couldn't they be better..."  And I have a good idea who will be the first to use it too.  LOL

@keendaddy don't pick on the VARSITY. I'm trying to get Gordon to build a VARSITY in Savannah or on Tybee. If you look at the length of time workers have been at the Varsity you will realize that it is a Great Company to work for. Many Varsity Workers have 15-40 years with the company and pass away as lifetime Varsity workers. If they couldn't make a living on the money The Varsity pays then they wouldn't spend their life committed to the company. Mr. Gordy then his daughters and now a son-in-law make the Varsity a great place to work. You would be surprised how much money some of the employees have IN THE BANK after working at The Varsity for a lifetime.

WDE
WDE

@keendaddy Agreed but the Wattle Neck good wants them for running backs and free safeties etc.

WDE
WDE

@gtcaryd@WDE well lets start with 11 of 12 , we can then move into beating 2 top 10 teams and then finish off with coming from 20 down to beat our hated rival in O.T...and when exactly was the last time Bug U was relevant ?

MikeBanning
MikeBanning

@MichaelCarvell @JacketMan

Yeah, you're right, we should take it to the bank and tell them that "we're returning this because the funds (information) are insufficient (info is wrong)".

JacketMan probably works for CPJ's agent and he comes on these blogs to defend him to keep the wolves at Bay.

Chan might have gotten a 7th year out of GT had he had a Jacket Man to patrol the on-line community to defend him the same way.

I'll give you credit MC, you do a good job, but I'm not a fan of JM though, his comments are clearly biased.

@CT_Jacket @MikeBanning @GTBob

Thanks for that list!

Where this goes is that GT was ABLE to make offers to 8/10 of the top-HS Recruits in Ga., with the ninth recruit getting offers from Vandy & Dook.

Back during the days of Bill Curry just 25-30 years ago, there was no way that GT could make offers to 8 or 9 of the Top-10 players from GA HSs, in many years  GT couldn't offer ANY of the Top-10 players from GA HSs due to their lack of the necessary academics.

The FACT that we were able to make offers to that MANY of the Top-10 players from GA HSs tells me that the "academics excuse" is greatly over-played by the CPJ apologists.

It also tells me that we/GT do not need to go to Vir., Md. and friggin' New Jersey to recruit players.

The players are here in GA/FL and other States in the SE-USA, and academics is not the MAIN thing that is hurting GT 's recruiting, GT's mediocre play under CPJ is hurting our recruiting.

Thanks for that list, I'll make sure I keep it handy for future reference.

@MikeBanning @GTBob

I want to see where this discussion goes.

From 247 Sports

1. Carter, DE (Undecided) GT offered

2. McMillan, ILB (OSU) GT offered

3. Chubb, RB (UGA) GT offered

4. Watson, QB (Clemson) GT offered

5. Parrish, CB (UGA) GT offered

6. Allen-Williams, OLB (SC) GT offered

7. Sawyer, DE (SC) No GT offer. Vandy & Duke offered

8. Ruffin, CB (AU) GT offered

9. Bessent, CB (AU) GT offered

10. Rogers, OLB (Clemson) No GT offered

  • Interesting, 8 of the top 10 are defensive players.  Tech's offense would have no REAL effect on their decision.
  • They all picked football factories but only one with a MNC in the last 10 years.
  • Further, there are no Stanford, Vandy or Duke commitments among them.

MikeBanning
MikeBanning

@GTBob That might be a blessing in disguise, he'd probably be better off playing under GOL.

GTBob
GTBob

Autry yes. Rogers no. Rogers hasn't even taken his SAT yet. We are keeping in touch with him but we can't get serious about him until he takes that test and improves in other areas.

MikeBanning
MikeBanning

@GTBob @MikeBanning @JacketMan

All the ones that have hopes for better offers:

Autry is hoping for FSU, Ohio St, or Florida

Rodgers is hoping for Ohio St.

When recruits have options, they usually move GT to the back of the line.

I'm sure there are more.

Let's see.  Having bloggers defending someone somehow determines if a coach is fired or not?

And you call us delusional?

You think JacketMan's comments are biased and yours are not?

And you call us delusional?

You think JacketMan's information is wrong, yet you constantly launch into asinine conspiracy theories that make CPJ responsible for everything from a fumbled snapped to the atrocities in Darfur.

And you call us delusional?

George Stein was right.  That's just precious....
