One of Auburn’s top football recruits was arrested and charged with two drug felonies on Friday.

Kalavaz Bessent is an Under Armour All-American cornerback from Georgia’s Camden County High School.

Bessent initially committed to Alabama but switched to Auburn, signing with the Tigers last Wednesday.

On Friday, Bessent was arrested on two felony charges stemming from possession of marijuana over 20 grams and possession with intent, according to the Nassua County Sheriff’s Office in Florida, per al.com. The website said he was charged and released on Saturday on a $5,506 bond.

Here’s more from al.com’s Brandon Marcello:

A 2007 Dodge Charger was stopped Friday at roughly 10 p.m. on U.S. 1 in western Nassau County for driving 58 mph in a 45 mph zone. Inside were four occupants, including driver Elbert Thornton, 21, of Jacksonville, sheriff Bill Leeper said.

A deputy smelled a strong odor of burnt marijuana and upon searching the vehicle found four bags of marijuana totaling 202.5 grams underneath the driver’s seat and front passenger seat. Bessent was sitting in the front passenger seat.

None of the four occupants, all male, took ownership of the marijuana and so all were arrested on the same charges, Leeper said.

Bessent tweeted about the situation:

HA HA Auburn has gotten away with a lot over the tears and should have  been investigated over Cam Newton.

There is 2 teams I don't trust in recruiting Alabama and Auburn.

Both have been caught several times and it's hard to trust them after all the probation's they have gone through

How many Camden County High School players does UGa have?

Hell, he'll be Auburn's starting QB!! If you haven't been arrested somewhere you can't play QB for Auburn!!

Any updates on what the school is saying or are they just hushed mouth as usual?

Seems the foot ball players think that they are above the law earlier and earlier in their careers, which is the main reason I don't attend or watch football games.  I don't feel the need to support this mentality with my money.

Wow! This guy Bessent has all the credentials to be Auburn's next quarterback. They should be able to convert him by spring.

I was figuring either murder, rape, or drug dealing. Pathetic how someone who knows absolutely nothing about this human POS could so easily come up with a simple, accurate, short list of correct possibilities. Way to go Auburn recruiters! You people sure know how to find fine specimens of human meat to represent your school's highest values.

Ask the Updyke Nation about DJ Pettway.. boy old Saban sure is getting desperate after getting spanked by Gus last year.  First Lame Kiffin not bring back one of his robbers. His own daughter hits harder than that pansy defense he put on the field last year

Has anyone ever noticed Nick Marshall thrived once he got out of the gangster culture in Athens?

Once somebody cops to the weed the Kid will walk.  Thuga and St Mark fully supported Sanders Cummings and his multiple arrest and assaults on women. He overlooked the thieving acts of The Ogletree Brothers, and Josh Harvey Clemons runs with drugs and guns just like Scarface.

Thuga fans are some of the biggest hypocrits around.

I imagine that UGA's strict anti drug policy dissuaded Kalvaraz from coming into UGA and it worked as designed.

I don't know why he was down in Florida with all that weed but, it doesn't look good and more like they were on a dealer run.

Auburn's going to burn a scholarship number here but they oversign so much it wont really matter.

Looks like Alabama & the dawgs dodged a bullet .

no big deal--90% of college players smoke weed---it should be legal anyway!

Not here to hate on Bessent, just to point out the obvious point that ALL schools have kids that smoke weed because it is a cultural issue and all schools are recruiting kids from the same culture. Even the POTUS said last week that smoking weed was no more harmful than drinking beer! UGA gets hammered in the press and in recruiting because UGA has a stricter drug policy than everyone else not named Kentucky, but all schools have pot-smokers whether they are testing for it or suspending them or not.

CAM NEWTON:  Kicked out of U of FLORIDA for stealing a laptop.  Dad tried to 'sell' his services to Miss St, but went to AUBURN instead. Money trail was hidden, or NCAA didn't look hard enough (cash???)

RESURFACES:  AUBURN

NICK MARSHALL:  Kicked out of U of GEORGIA for stealing from team-mates.

RESURFACES: AUBURN

KALAVAZ BESSENT:  Arrested with mega amounts of drugs in car.  Cops smell strong odor of marijuana.  Searches and finds drugs in car, but no one knew they were there.  Maybe they were just really high & didn’t remember whose they were??

(Future) RESULT:  AU lawyer gets charges reduced to misdemeanor and community service.  KALAVAZ apologizes and admits he's learned a 'hard lesson'.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.................

No worries Bassent.... AU regularly takes criminals in under their wings.  You'll still be welcomed with open arms!!

@BCB

For what smoking ?  He did not say he was smoking.  I remember a small cornerback for us I will leave nameless who said he did not buy alcohol for minors (They also would be arrested for that in Denver and Seattle underage pot.), when he was the only one who could pass for the 22-year player whose ID he borrowed.  All 4 of them in the car, except for him arrested, and one prominent TB quit the team over this, exactly.  Mark Richt punished all of them except the small cornerback.

Remember this ?

Driving around downtown Athens drinking.

The charge for owning the drugs for sale, will not see the light of day.  If it were his, it would not be under the driver's seat with 4 full bags.  He'd have it, wouldn't he ?

What exactly do you want Auburn to do right now ?

I think he will be proven to not own it, as he repeatedly has stated.  The charge is trumped up to get the owner to confess.

Where does that leave your post BCB ?

That he smoked ?

All charges against him dropped if that the case, right ?

What would you do if you were Auburn BCB ?

@SlawDawg

Why don't you tell us who your real team is ?  Afraid to for obvious reasons ?  Clearly, UGA has had problems with arrests ourselves, and we not kicked those players off our team, but more importantly have reduced the number of arrested.

Suspensions, however, remain an issue at UGA - even when they are not arrested - not that you address that.

You see ?

We actually punish scholarship recruits here more severely than any other school in the nation when they have errors of youth.

If we think it too egregious, we kick them off our team.  And, we punish them for 1st offense.  Now, what is the name of your school ?

RedandBlackDAWG
RedandBlackDAWG

@SlawDawg Perhaps you need to look up some stats. for the previous years at he SEC schools. Last year Alabama, LSU, Kentucky, and Florida had more arrest than UGA. You confuse things by not acknowledging, that UGA, in more cases tan not, catches it won kids for doing the wrong thing, and here's the kicker, they actually, punish them. Only Auburn (1), Vanderbilt (1) and Mississippi (2), had less problems with police reports and arrest than UGA had.
