UGA legacy remains loyal to Georgia Tech

By Michael Carvell

Franklin County High School’s Will Bryan committed to Georgia Tech before the start of his junior season, which is believed to be the earliest pledge ever accepted by Paul Johnson while coach of the Yellow Jackets.

As expected with how recruiting works these days, other colleges haven’t stopped flirting with the offensive lineman, despite his commitment. Bryan said he has heard some from UGA, which is not surprising because his father played football for the Bulldogs and his older brother is a member of the SEC school’s baseball team.

Bryan talks about UGA, where his commitment stands with Georgia Tech, and other recruiting topics in the video.

So Will wasn't/isn't looking for his endless 15 minutes of fame. Salute young man.

You would think he would go to UGA given his upbringing, but he probably has a natural aptitude for math and science.  It only makes sense to take the scholarship to the premier engineering school.

He's a very likeable fellow.  Just hope he's a bulldozer on the field!

It will be interesting to see which other schools offer him.

He seems like a very intelligent young man who'll be a fine student-athlete at Tech.

Randy Hall, thanks for your different slant on our team  LMAO.  Have you been down to practice yet to tell Will Friend how you feel about him?   What a chicken s__t

People....I will say it over and over again until UGA wins a NC which will take each unit of UGA's Team to play great: there is the "Will Friend" Factor....Friend has under-recruited his position, under coached his position...ie all (3) senior starters on UGA's OL were not even invited to the NFL Combine...and what level has he taken a 5 star John Theus...and had his OL under perform...ie inconsistency @ Clemson, Vandy, Missouri and Nebraska and no All SEC performers among the OL....TIME FOR CMR TO WIN A NC!!! This may have played into Will Bryan's decision!!!

Go ahead and spell complete words boys. It won't take too much more effort. Scholly is not a word. You guys like to portray an image of being educated from the Georgia university system. Didn't any of you take english composition or creative writing? I know it's offered.

Also, the juvenile tone in most of the postings doesn't reflect a higher educational background. Most of it is embecillic.

I have a higher educational background from Whassamatta U.

wish he could talk to his neighbor in Stephens County and get him to consider Tech...two big

Even though he committed to tech, I appreciate a kid making a commitment and standing solid. He sounds more firm than any kid I've heard in the recruiting process. Doesn't seem to need his ego fed by other recruiters. Refreshing.

Nice to hear a recruit understand the meaning of commitment.

Sounds to me like he knows what he wants to do. Welcome to The Flats!

Brendan Douglas was solid to Tech until a last minute UGA offer was offered. Never say never.

Sounds like he's ready to go 0-4 vs. his in state rival and perfect the cut block!

He doesn't have an offer from UGA.

Sounds like he solid with Tech....but, you never know.  If family connections to a particular program are so important, why is he going to Tech when his dad and brother went to UGA?  Are you listening, Mitch Hyatt? Besides, if CPJ heard that he was going to a FSU or UGA spring practice, he might pull his scholly offer.

Youre right about that. I really like this kid and hes SERIOUSLY underrated due to his early commitment to the Jackets! Weve got a great one and best of all... Hes solid as a rock on his commitment. You can bet alot of decision making.went into doing that. Family having UGA ties and STILL commiting.to Tech. Hes solid and I hope his extra recruiting.efforts help bring.in more talent. Glad to have you Will!!!

@RandyHall Saw some interesting stats posted on another site. since you bash Richt constantly about OL recruiting, I found this newsworthy.

"hate to burst everyone's bubble, but Richt has signed more OL than any of the SEC teams that have won a national title since the rankings go back to 2002. UGA has signed 56 OL (4.3 per year), while Bama has signed 50, LSU 51, AU 48, UF 47. If you go by the last 5 classes we've been 3rd amongst those programs, with AU leading at 21, Bama at 20, UGA at 18, LSU and UF at 17.

While we may have had a very difficult time attracting top talent at the position, keeping them healthy, or on campus, it most certainly hasn't been for a lack of effort or focus. We're on par with the other top programs in the league in terms of signing bodies. In my opinion, Callaway and Searels proved to be below average recruiters, while Friend is actually starting to hit his stride in that regard. Nobody can debate that the 2014 signing class represents the highest quality group in the Richt era, and he had some major wins with Theus, Cardiello, Kublanow, Seymour, and Pyke in his first couple of years. If he manages to haul 3 high quality kids in the 2015 class, it will arguably be the best 4 year stretch of OL recruiting under Richt.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if you've signed 6 more guys over the rest of the league over a 13 year stretch when literally 23 of them never played more than one season due to either injuries or off the field issues. There is no debating that the position has been somewhat of an Achilles heal, but the data shows that it has little to nothing to do with failing to make the position a "priority."

@RandyHall My head exploded from reading that. Richt will never win a NC.

@Mezark  if you are going to criticize for not spelling complete words, at least learn to spell them correctly...the word you are trying to be a big boy and use:  embecillic is actually imbecilic.  C'mon man, don't be an imbecile.

"Doesn't" - really? Did they teach such intellectual laziness at Whassamatta U? Was that a junior college? You don't have the brainpower to spell out "does not"?

How plebeian. Now run along to one of your blue collar deep fried distractions won't you?

@Hookedonshortpasses  Ben Cleveland? Don't forget two of the greatest players in Georgia Tech history are from Stephens County High School. Pat Swilling and Ken Swilling

@DawgGoneIt  sounds like he knows the ODDS of actually getting a NFL contract or even play longer than 3 years in the NFL. He is going to get a GREAT DEGREE and still have a shot at the NFL.

UGa uses the Cut Block and so does the NFL

@Dawgilama  True. In fact his only known offer is from Georgia Tech. Then again, he committed super early

@Gandolph  HYATT is a CLEM&SON legacy.

CPJ will not pull a scholly you IDIOT. Can't you read or understand CPJ's philosophy? CPJ has said it so many times even a UGa fan can understand it.

@Gandolph  After that interview with Will Bryan, I'd be surprised if he flipped. In fact, I'd be surprised if he even picked up the phone if a coach from another school called his house. But you never know in the wacky world of recruiting. Nothing surprises me with any kid involving any college.

@DawginLex @RandyHallDIL puts an end to the "Will Friend" factor. If you can do something about "Time for Mark Richt to win a NC"

@ChuckinAlpharetta  Hey how's it hangin? Oops, another contraction used in English composition. Left off the g also..

Whassamatta U is not a military school; so I was not a plebe.

"Won't" - really? Cannot thou spell out "wont not?" I have a feeling you replied to a "help wonted" sign.
