5-star offensive lineman will visit UGA

By Michael Carvell

UGA will get another chance to make another impression on Chuma Edoga, the 5-star offensive lineman who committed to USC over the Bulldogs last month.

The McEachern High School standout told the AJC on Tuesday he has changed his mind about taking all five official visits next fall – instead he will only take two recruiting trips, going to USC and UGA.

In the video, Edoga gives a detailed answer about why he picked USC, what type of communication he’s had with UGA since then, why he will visit the Bulldogs, and what it will take to change his mind.

Edoga’s visit could give UGA some much-needed momentum among recruiting the state’s elite offensive linemen. This is one of Georgia’s best crops ever at the position, including two 5-stars (Edoga and North Gwinnett’s Mitch Hyatt, who is committed to Clemson).

However, while it’s early, it appears that most of the state’s elite offensive linemen will be going out of state for college, including Mays High School’s Dallas Warmack (committed to Alabama), Mill Creek High School’s Kaleb Kim (Auburn), Sprayberry High School’s Bailey Sharp (Auburn) and Coffee High School’s Cole Minshew (FSU), among others.

Here’s the interview with Chuma Edoga:

Warmack was going to Bama no matter what because of his brother. UGA didn't offer Bailey (just another 3*). They offered Kim and are still working on Minshew.

UGa doesn't have CRAP in ENGINEERING.

SCARED to Play in the SEC? Hahah no he wants an EDUCATION and that isn't the main goal in the SEC for athletes.

He is going to visit UGa for a PARTY WEEKEND and not much else but it will quite the mutt fans from harassing him and his family..

Mark and his staff have to stop this "good players to auburn" and soon. You folks are hurting Bama at this point with your inability to get these good recruits to Athens.

Win something and they will come. Bubba Will and Jeremy are closer than 2 drops of dew, he isn't going anywhere.

Verbal commitments mean virtually zilch, nada. I'm not worried about who commits now nor to whom. De-committing these days has become the norm for high profile players and they switch at least once or twice before February. That, plus the fact that UGA won't get every single 5 star from the state, keeps me from peering over the ledge, like so many of the posters. UGA will get theirs, but the winning teams from the previous season will always be the ones that get who they want...or almost. UGA will be good in 2014 and with a few breaks, maybe great. Looking forward to August 30th and SO ready for this snooze-fest called Baseball to end. GO DAWGS!

Amazing....our best offensive linemen are going out of state and Will Friend still keeps his job.  I guess working at a State university is like working for any other state position...it takes a lot to get fired.

I could just imagine how Richt and Bobo's offense would click EVEN BETTER with 5 five star lineman starting. They put of big numbers without them, but I would love to see Gurley run behind a stud line.

UGA doesn't have aerospace engr., but I think they do have Mech. Engr. & Computer Engr. and he could work in the Aerospace Industry if he wanted to.

I find it kinda SAD that a local recruit with a 1,200 on the 2-part SAT won't even give GT & Pajamas' gimmicky offense the time of day, and instead would look at a school (UGA) that doesn't even have his desired major.

CPJ, destroying GT GB one recruit at a time!

Did he not receive a Portrait?

This is a sharp kid and by far the best OL in the state, imo.  I couldn't care less about the ones who are going to Auburn, but the UGA staff should do everything in its power to get Edoga.  You're a wanted man, Chuma.

@kerryb you forgot Hyatt, another legacy.  The deal isn't done yet so anything can happen but those are pretty long odds to face.  It's hard to recruit against a kids family.  It can be done but it's an uphill battle.

It would help if they recruited south georgia better. Just as much talent. Kids aren't transplants. Almost all are dawg fans. Going to athens is a big deal to them.

@Charlestondog  He does a good job with the players he has, but his recruiting skills seem to be lacking up to this point.  Maybe, Friend's friend Pruitt will have a positive influence on the way he recruits.

Also, for any linemen out there, think of how you will improve your skills by going against Pruitt's and Rocker's DL!   Come to UGA and become super studs!

@MikeBanning  Would Ross, O'Leary or Gailey have gotten this kid at GT?

@MikeBanning  Big guyes don't like diving at ankles in that chop blocking scheme they have.  Getting 6'6" 300 lbs off the ground time after time throughout a game probably gets really old.

@FireSomebody  excellent comment.  BTW, do the Auburn guys realize they are going to a gimmicky High School type offence?  Will that really develop them for the pros?

@Oldschoolfootballplayer

I am from South Georgia and I totally agree with you. Pruitt has a lot of contacts with High School Head Coaches in South Georgia and between him and Bobo I hope Georgia will start Recruiting that area a lot harder.

@GTBob

With  a 1,200 on the 2-part SAT and a desire to be an AE, those GT HCs would fare better than CPJ has.

At least with those HCs GT would be in his top-3, with Pajamas GT doesn't even get a mention.

@MikeBanning Yet none of those coaches ever recruited a player of his caliber. Kind of amazing huh? Ill tell you what also. If this kid actually gets an engineering degree or even pursues one then I will donate 1k to a charity of your choice. Im going to take a wild guess and say it doesn't happen.

Not sure how I feel about this...my instinct is that it's just weird. Keep envisioning players coming by CMR’s office to talk about concerns and/or transferring and CMR’s staff telling them to come back later as it’s CMR’s “artist time”.

Suppose I’d feel better about it if I saw Saban’s or Spurrier’s watercolors
