Alabama’s Nick Saban gives Georgia QB permission to seek a transfer (UPDATED)

By Michael Carvell

QB Parker McLeod (247sports)

QB Parker McLeod (247sports)

  • UPDATE: Parker McLeod’s father told the AJC on Wednesday that a report about his son transferring to Oregon State is untrue. “No destination finalized yet.”

Who will be the replacement for A.J. McCarron at Alabama?

You can probably take the name of rising sophomore Parker McLeod of Walton High School out of the running.

Alabama coach Nick Saban told reporters at Tuesday’s SEC meetings that McLeod has been given permission to seek a transfer opportunity.

The 6-foot-3 McLeod signed with Alabama over Oklahoma State as a senior at Walton, along with his highly-publicized high school teammate, running back Tyren Jones.

Neither McLeod or Jones appeared in a game for Alabama last season.

someone needs to research and write an article in examining the # of transfers of each school which make-up the sec, acc, big ten, big 12 and pac 12.  Would/could be a very interesting tool for recruits to consider prior to selecting a school......granted the HC has been at the respective school for an extended period.

10RC QB Riley Ferguson is leaving the program. Bama took Parker over Riley. Looks like both of us crashed and burned. Parker has a strong arm so he still has a chance to help some team but he is behind 4 QB's that are better at Bama and two of those are freshman.

Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Florida, Florida State....all play for and win National Championships.

UGA does not.

When will UGA supporters come out of denial and demand better?

Glory be, Coach does the right thing and you think you have to rally around as if it was your leadership (or granting of permission to do so) that is responsible for it.

But, but, we were told by all the Bammers that despite the 3 star rating, this is the kind of QB that Bama develop into a champion.............

GTBob......I think you do a disservice to O'Leary, when you downplay his coaching ability.  He has beaten a lot of good teams since he has been at Central Florida.  You may not care for him but the can coach a little football.

Like the fans can do anything to make a difference, of which 90% of them ever did any of the following:

Set foot in a classroom in Athens

Give 1 dime to the Hartman Fund

The money is flowing in. Richt runs a classy, clean program and the kids that play for him love him. Richt will never cheat, fix grades, pay players or associate with dirty boosters. He will also never intentionally oversign 10-15 players and then "cut" down to 85. He is also not the one making the decisions about spending money on things like an indoor practice facility.

The folks who are truly in charge are happy. Until UGA decides to level the playing field and get down in the ditch AND spend money, Richt will always be at a competitive disadvantage.

Has he made mistakes? You bet. Hanging on to WM too long. Hanging on to RG too long. The whole Grantham thing went about as well as it could have. He got lucky that Todd was able to hook up with Motorcycle Boy. I really like the Pruitt hire. I like what Bobo has done. We also need a lucky break like Auburn got last year.

The fans have no power to do anything.

If you really are UNBIASED why would it matter enough for you to go to all the trouble of giving us  your UNBIASED BS  Opinion??

@UnbiasedObserver when our fans decide to turn off the VHS tapes of 1980 and Herschel Highlight tape

or they stop falling for pre-season catch phrases like Cutting Edge Football; Society of the Miserable; Knocking on the door to greatness.

Until that happens 3 or more losses will continue to be the norm with the occasional 2 loss season

We did it with John Parker Wilson and Greg McElroy.  AJ was a pretty touted recruit, but I think you can obviously see what Alabama did for him as far as weight room and helping increase his skill set.  Don't let that get in the way of your mornic point of view though.

KeepOnSmilingWetWillie
KeepOnSmilingWetWillie

Just for the record Greg McElroy was a 3 * that one the NC. Parker was a roster filler. Like 75% of those QB's at UGA today.

@Quackmeyer Yeah, and he has lost to a lot of bad teams at Central Florida. The guy isn't half the coach people build him up to be. Before the last two years most Central Florida fans wanted him fired. Luckily for him Blake Bortles turned out as good as he was or else O'Leary probably would be retired by now.

Contractor1

You honestly think AJ Green is the only football player in Georgia history to sell a jersey or receive money from a booster?  Good lord, keep dreaming you delusional fool.  Mark Richt is a VERY likable guy and one that I respect as a human being, but he has as many issues behind the scenes as all other coaches around the country that have star athletes.  There's no way you and all the other sheep are that naive.  Right?  You willing to put money on the fact that your program is lilly white with no issues?  I'll take that bet all week long and twice on Sunday.

@GTBob @Quackmeyer  For you to say that O'Leary is not a good coach is asinine. If O'Leary had not tried to go to Notre Dame he would still be the coach @ GT and you guy would have won multiple ACC championships and would have more than one win against UGA during that span for sure.

BigCrimson75

@GTBob @Quackmeyer  Bob -- That is absolute non-sense.

You've got a personal agenda/vendetta against GOL.

The folks at UCF love him. Best HC is school history.

One of my greatest desires as a Dawgfan is for GT to keep CPJ forever and let Reggie Ball play QB forever!!!!!!!!!!!

MikeBanning
MikeBanning

@GTBob

According to that ideology. Urban Meyer  is really lucky that Alex Smith and Tim Tebow turned out so good.

GOL is great HC on the college level and he has been getting well deserved accolades for what he did last season.

GOL went 12-1 at school-UCF that is the 5th or 6th choice among HS recruits in their home state of Florida, that is amazing anyway you slice it.

@Contractor1  go build a double wide sport

You come on here with your holier than thou Bamatard crap and expect me to not respond?

Why don't you take $10 bucks and join 24/7 Bama On Line and bask in the Bama elitist BS with all the other delusional gumps?

This is a Georgia newspaper son.

Contractor1

Thinks for proving why I am stupid.  Guess that goes to show you have no leg to stand on, which you never did in the first place.  Oh, and Alabama just on a golf title and women's doubles tennis title.  More trophies for the case.  Don't see Georgia pulling any, but what's new on that front.  Ha Ha, what losers.

Make up your  F E E B L E / N O N- E X I S T A N T  mind LoLife. If CMR isn't with  E V E R Y recruit  24/7 he can't possibly know 100% of what happens with them. Lex said CMR runs a clean program(which he definitely does) so how do you hold CMR responsible for the selling of a jersey??? As soon as it came out CMR suspended AJ until the NCAA decided how much punishment  goes with selling a jersey.

Contractor1
Contractor1

I never said he was a cheater, but you saying he runs a clean program is full of crap.  Anything that happens falls under his watchful eye, just like any CFO in the business world or any father in his household.  I know people that have given Georgia players money, and bought game worn items from them, in person.  Past and current players  Good lord you're such a tool and an idiot to boot.  Can society really be driving itself off the cliff with people like this guy roaming around?

DawginLex

@Contractor1  So AJ Green selling a jersey makes Mark Richt a cheater?

You really need to swallow a big dose of STFU you retarded GUMP

We shouldn't be blaming God for A N Y T H I N G  related to football because if God really cared about football CMR would go undefeated E V E R Y Y E AR  and the NC Trophy  would become the  M A R K   R I C H T   Trophy.

GTBob

@BigCrimson75 Yep, which was what O'Leary was every year without Friedgen and Joe Hamilton.

GTBob
GTBob

@thebucket O'Leary would have long been fired by GT by now. He didn't have a great relationship with the administration at GT and his shady academic tactics were going to explode eventually like they did right after he left. On top of that, he was only 7-5 his last season and Friedgen was already out the door. Things weren't looking too good for him. Thankfully, god got him away from us sooner than that.

Can't we just break this GOL  BS off????

GT Bob has a right to his opinon whether whether or not anyone else agrees!!!!!!!!!!

GTBob
GTBob

@BigCrimson75 Its not personal at all. I don't feel he is all that great of a football coach or a human being. If he were some great coach like you all seem to think then he wouldn't have gotten stuck at UCF for 10 years. I am glad that he didn't lead Tech any longer than he did.

GTBob
GTBob

@BigCrimson75 They do after this past season. Wait until he goes 5-7 again and ask them then. There is even a firecoacholeary website. Search for fire O'Leary on google and you get tons of articles and blogs from UCF fans. The guy has never been all that liked at UCF. He has bought a little more time with this season though.

I actually attended some classes at GT and pull for them when they aren't playing UGA!!!

As I have said numerous times most of my posts are BS just to rattle some cages and dig at trolls!!!!

I have taken your side many times in the past when it sometimes appeared you were defending GT all by yourself against half dozen posters on here(similar to POAD The TOAD but I love both you and POAD/TOAD although he/she/it makes it hard  to do because truth be known POAD/TOAD's mother probably doesn't love him)

GTBob

@Snagglepuss You beat GT every year no matter who the coach and QB are. Why exactly do you have any great desires about GT?

MikeBanning
MikeBanning

@GTBob

Navy's SoS's during the CPJ's tenure was always in the 100s, UCF's SoS's are usually in the 50s to low 70s.

It is very hard to win at UCF, that used to be considered a COMMUTER SCHOOL like Ga. State where the avg. age of undergrads was 26 or 27 about a decade ago.

Snagglepuss
Snagglepuss

@GTBob @DawginLex

Well one thing that CPJ had going for him at Navy was they played Army every year which is kinda like UGA plays GT every year......................which kinda, sorta explains the 61%.

TampGator1

@GTBob

"They have no academics at all"

--your reference to UCF's academics

FYI.....UCF has excellent degree programs in both education and business, with many of their graduate degree programs ranked in the top 100 of all state universities.

GTBob
GTBob

@DawginLex Lets put it this way. CPJ won 61% of his games at Navy. O'Leary has won 56% of his games at UCF. Which school do you think is tougher to win at? On top of that CPJ actually graduates players and doesn't kill any of them.

DawginLex
DawginLex

@GTBob @DawginLex  You can't take away 2013 like it did not happen. It did

The guy can coach and he is better than Johnson

GTBob
GTBob

@DawginLex Please. The guy won 5 games at UCF in his 8th season. Most Tech fans would have wanted his head on a stick for that. If he is as of good of a coach as you say and he could take a team that traditionally wins 7 games and could turn them into consistent champions then why is he coaching at UCF? Of the numerous coaching jobs that have opened up in the last 10 years, why hasn't he been in the running for any of them? Why did UCF fans want him fired before the last 2 seasons?

DawginLex
DawginLex

@GTBob @MikeBanning  O'Leary built the program up at UCF

Bob, he could come to Tech right now and in 2 years they would be in the top 3 on our schedule an he would be winning Coastal titles.

GTBob
GTBob

@MikeBanning UCF is not a hard school to win at. They have no academics at all, they have a huge student base and fan base, and they a re a popular destination for quality players who want to transfer somewhere for more playing time. I applaud him for a nice season last year but he also has an 0-11 season there, 2 four win seasons, a 5 win season, and one dead player on his resume.

@KeepOnSmilingWetWillie

Nothing was said about "a big time QB at this time". I simply asked  how many people make up 75% o the 5 current QB candidates.

It was just a "smart-a$$" response to your 75% of the current UGA  QB group.

75% of 5 is  3.75 thus the SA reply!!

Sorry bout that!! I will try to do better!!!!!!!!
