Georgia Tech has connection to big in-state WR

By Michael Carvell

Georgia Tech could sign as many as three wide receivers in this year’s recruiting class, and one of the top in-state targets is North Gwinnett High School’s Almonzo Brown.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder has recent offers from Kansas State and Minnesota.

Georgia Tech has been pursuing Brown for a while, and there’s a special connection: His older sister graduated from the ACC school.

What does Brown like about Georgia Tech? The 3-star talked about it in the below video:

This big receiver has offers from GT, Missouri, Minnesota, Kentucky, Kansas St, Iowa and Florida.

Johnson recruiting the skill positions very well. Would still like to see us land more Big Nasties on the OLine and DLine.

14 comments and ONLY JACKETMAN and myself even watched the video. He would probably make a great A-Back. Since he is a WR in high school he should be great at running routs from the A-Back position on flair/screens or the drag route like a TE would run.

Did any of you even bother to watch the video? Almonzo said he's being recruited as an A-Back, NOT a Wide Receiver.

GT is the Institute of Wide Receivers. Could Mr. Brown be Megatron 2.0?

Another big body WR. I hope you find what you are looking for. If that is GT than even better.

Better sign someone who can throw a forward pass.

Come on down to the Flats Almonzo, be glad to have ya!

@RuePaulJohnson Why are you saying we? I didn't know UGA was recruiting for the A-back position now.

@RuePaulJohnson It was a bit of a budget hire but that had a lot more to do with Paul Hewitt then it did with CPJ. Either way, Mark Price was never in serious consideration. Also, im not entirely sure why that tweet randomly appears in a football recruiting blog, but I guess Carvell wanted a little bigger audience for his attempt to bash GT.

Although no formal "THANK YOU" was ever issued to the GTAA from Auburn, rumor was Auburn was interested in Paul Johnson, so D. Rad. threw the bank at him to keep him here.

And you don't think Mark Price would have been a 'discount hire', oh great omniscient one?

Doh! I went back and watched the video. A 6'-2" 210 lb freshman a-back would be something different. He could be devastating if he can block.

@JacketMan

Why would any Tech fan expect the naysayers and trolls to ACTUALLY to take a little time to view the video before voicing their "expert knowledge". LOL

Maybe the kid has been reading on our site that GTBobby is working the high dollar folks to get Mike Leach to the Jackets. Possible.

@RuePaulJohnson The point was, im not sure why a UGA fan like you would care whether we are recruiting an a-back or not.

GTBob

@RuePaulJohnson There were pretty good sources saying that Auburn was offering CPJ up to 3 mil a year. Sources that are much more credible than a psychopath who harasses GT's recruits on twitter.

@RuePaulJohnson....WnE Mike Banning and who is your source that gave you proof Paul Johnson's agent started the Auburn rumors?

"Normal" = "more passing / off. balance"?

@GTBob @RuePaulJohnson

I see MC is giving the troll of many, many screen names yet one more chance. A bit surprising after so many of his posts on Nathan Cottrell, Christian Philpott and Trent Sellers were removed ;-) We all know our resident troll of many, many screen named will ultimately be banned yet again LOL!

@gatechclassof95 well why don't you find somebody in Vegas to take your bet, but don't bet anything you don't want to lose because Paul Johnson will be the coach in 2015 unless he only wins 4-5 games.

@Birmingham__Jacket

Would that be the same Butch Davis who went 3-5, 4-4, 4-4 and 4-4 in the ACC with a 1-2 record against CPJ?  All this while having his son's tutor writing papers for football players?

GTBob
GTBob

@RuePaulJohnson He turned down offers bigger than what he got from GT before he ever agreed to coach at GT. He isn't completely about the money. Auburn did help him get a pay raise though. That was nice of them.

GTBob
GTBob

@wrecked Godsey? What is with GT fans obsession with bringing back old players with limited coaching experience to be head coaches at GT?

@GeorgeStein

Kelly developed his offense at UNH - must mean it is a D II offense that would never work in a "real league"

GTBob
GTBob

@GeorgeStein You didn't know George? The definition of a real offense is a ball in the air. Apparently if we throw the ball 60 times a game we will be a much better team with a real offense than if we ran the ball 60 times.

@GTBob @wrecked Gt will not  be  able to afford  a  big name  coach, hiring  an up and  coming  coach will be the  best  bet. It will take  whomever  a  couple of years to clean up what PJ's done to the program.

@GTBob GOOSE is getting and has been getting some excellent coaching experience.

GeorgeStein
GeorgeStein

@GTBob I actually have no issue with that.   The problem will be that when Godsey (or Price) struggles, they'll want that person fired immediately.   They live in a fantasy land, where decisions have no consequences.   Must be nice.

GeorgeStein
GeorgeStein

@PaulinNH Probably not interested in Gus Malzahn, either.   His is an actual high school offense.

GeorgeStein
GeorgeStein

@GTBob I know I love watching fullbacks lead a tailback through the B gap on HB isos 15 times a game.   It's a real hoot!

GTBob
GTBob

@Dawgilama Im not sure an NFL QBs coach qualifies as an up and comer. GT could easily hire a hot coach from smaller program. We don't need to hire the guy flipping burgers at McDonalds for minimum wage to coach the football team because we are so poor.

GTBob
GTBob

@POAD2014 I agree but he is a quaterbacks coach right now. I wouldn't mind if we hired a defensive minded coach that he get a shot at offensive coordinator but calling on him to be head coach now is ridiculous.

POAD2014
POAD2014

@GTBob I never said NOW...I think he has 3-5 more years and he will be ready. I think being in the NFl he will get to know plenty of good D-minded coaches he can bring to TECH if needed.
