UGA, Alabama and Florida among leaders for LB Adonis Thomas

By Michael Carvell

UGA, Alabama and Florida are among the leaders for Adonis Thomas, who is rated as the state’s No. 16 overall prospect and will announce his college decision on Aug. 1.

The outside linebacker from Central Gwinnett High School lists a top five which also includes LSU and Notre Dame.

The 6-foot-4 Thomas left for an unofficial visit to Florida on Sunday and will go to Notre Dame on June 20. He will also take a recruiting trip to Alabama next month.

  • Does Florida still lead for Thomas?
  • How does he feel about UGA?
  • What does he like about Alabama and Notre Dame?

Thomas talks about that and more in the video:

with alabama's track record of sending LBs to the nfl, he'll end up in tuscaloosa

This kid is a perfect need fit for Florida and he knows it.  But Bama and Notre Dame will certainly challenge for his services before it is over August 1. He is a very good football player for sure.

Unless Will and the Gators crash and burn it looks like UF for this talented player.

2014 power ratings out. Tech at 47. No bad Tech. I would of thought 60's with your losses and no QB

Adonis Thomas = UF and probably taking his buddy, OT Mike Horton with him...

Don't expect that to happen this coming year. Florida will be much improved and much deeper on the depth chart, especially at QB with Will Grier and Treon Harris on campus.  And Florida just got another Elite 11 QB commit for 2015.....duel threat QB from California.

@96JB Just like every year, we will be the worst team in college football and your team will win the MNC.

@RuePaulJohnson It seems WnE/MikeBanning...aka now.....RuPaul This player not have TECH on his list has nothing to do with Paul Johnson or the Triple Option........He PLAYS DEFENSE and that is on Ted Roof. Ted is getting the D better and that will help recruit better D players. I think 3 players on this years D will get Drafted and that will go a long way to getting better players.

Gotsis Johnson Nealy, There are some young guys that might get drafted from this years unit, but I haven't seen them play enough to say at this point.

@RuePaulJohnson Go worry about your woeful dawgs troll. Good luck to this young man, wherever he goes.

Tampa...you always got this or that and they can run a 2.5 40 etc. Will has his work cutout for him in 2014. Have you found a LB that can bark at the police dogs?  As I recal Pease was going to lead you to the Promise Land in 2013 but something happened along the way.

The pressure is on for Will this year. There are some great recruits in Florida this year and many favor the Gators but if the team fails again I expect some of those great recruits to look around a little more. The Bama vs UF game will be huge for both programs. I hope Bama can get by Couch Burner U in Atlanta. We have no punter nor place kicker and a new QB....not a great situation.

Just posting opinions of what I feel is real on here, Wet, based on what happened this winter and spring at Florida.  Never posted anything about 2.5, 40 yard dash players. And I know, every player on Bama is superman and loyal Tea Party members. Somehow, the Florida coaches and players will overcome their fears of Saban and Alabama and show up in Bammerland this coming year. We will see what happens then.

@KeepOnSmilingWetWillie This will be Will's last year.

He is a great DC, but not a head coach.

I wish he was. The Ga game is the barometer for a Florida

coach. Florida had a run for about 20 something years.

Will changed all that. Sadly, the fans know it too.

As far as Bama, we going to win, and win big because

of one thing. Nick Saban.

@KeepOnSmilingWetWillie It would be nice to see them get back to there winning ways and strengthen up the East again. Keep making first downs and you won't need a punter of a kicker. We know Nick has a Defense.

@RuePaulJohnson @POAD2014 ND academics really? what do you think this player will study at ND? He will not take a hard class for 3 years just like Tuitt.

I'm pretty sure Paul Johnson isn't the one in charge of recruiting this player.

@RuePaulJohnson You should be worrying about your DB depth chart their in Athens, We who support Tech appreciate your concern but we don't need you.

Muschamp encountered the perfect storm for losing seasons last year.  Those kind of storms do not come around very often. I would not lay too much money on Muschamp not returning for the 2015 season if I were you.  Roper is going to make a big difference coaching the offense and the defense will be very good.  The game in Bammerland is huge for both teams.

Call me when Alabama wins 6 games.  Or Georgia.  Or any top SEC team, which Florida is.  One bad, injured-riddled year does not change that.

@RuePaulJohnson I don't have to worry about our DL/DE. We have Coaches who get paid well to worry about that. Unlike yourself they know what they are doing.Run along Mikey.

I guess you do not pay much attention to the news or history.

News: McGee, the outstanding TE/H-B graduated from Virginia and transferred to Florida for his last year to play in Roper's high octane offense. This fills a huge need for Florida's offense and he will be a difference maker for the Gators.  Very much an all-SEC type receiver.

News: Robinson, the all everything WR recruit from Georgia, finally got it this spring and stood out big time in Roper's offense at WR.  And Ahmad Fulwood, the very good freshman WR from last year, got even better in the spring.  So did redshirt freshman Alvin Bailey in the slot.  And Dunbar and Pittman, very good possession receivers, are back as well.  Receivers will not be an issue for Florida this year.

News:  Driskel is a duel threat QB, not a pro style QB.  He looked very good running Roper's offense in the spring.  And Will Grier and Treon Harris, two of the top duel threat QB recruits in the nation last year, will push Driskel and make him better as well.

History:  Roper sent a lightly recruiting QB to the Falcons from Duke.  He also turned two very lightly recruiting QBs at Duke last year into very good QBs.  Roper is an outstanding QBs coach, which Pease was not, and he has already made a difference with Driskel's mental approach to the game.  There is nothing wrong with his physical skills.  Big body, fast, and a very strong arm.  His problem has been mental on the field with slow reads and a slow release.  Roper worked hard with Driskel on both of those issues in the spring and there was major improvement already, with the summer and fall camp to go.  And, Roper will encourage Driskel to run the ball, something he does very well and something Pease refused to let him do.

P.S.  Coach Summers already has the healthy again offensive line working as a cohesive unit, something they never did under coach Davis's complicated blocking schemes that Pease and Davis never got on the same page about.  No communication or strategy issues between Roper and Summers.

@gtcaryd

Jeremy Foley has no intention of firing Will Muschamp.  Muschamp was under terrible fire last year and Foley never waivered on his head coach.  Muschamp will get Florida back fighting for the SEC and NC very soon, maybe this year.

GTBob
GTBob

@RuePaulJohnson Yep, GT should be in the top 5 for every major recruit. Its a shame that we have had 10 coaches in a row that couldn't pull off that really easy task. One day we will hire a slightly competent coach that will recruit us to greatness.

kerryb

@RuePaulJohnson @gtcaryd Usually there's no reason to make a comment about GT on a blog.  It's the GT knuckleheads always coming on a UGA blog making dumb comments.

gtcaryd

@kerryb @gtcaryd @RuePaulJohnson You talking about Tech or UGA? Lets see 9 years since a conference championship, 9 multiplied by CMR salary is........well lets just say its a lot. But i am glad Mikey found him a troll companion.

TampGator1

@RuePaulJohnson

Didn't say any of that in my post.  Just posted my thoughts on what you said about Driskel and Florida having no NFL type WRs. Then, you come back with some off the wall post.  Typical on here.

kerryb
kerryb

@gtcaryd @kerryb @RuePaulJohnson Tech's won how many in the last 20 years?  Also Tech plays in one of the weakest conferences of the big 5 in college football.  Yeah, Mark Richt has a nice salary because UGA is not a low budget team.

GTBob
GTBob

@RuePaulJohnson Saying that GT should be in the top 5 for every major recruit in the metro Atlanta area is a completely ridiculous statement and you know it. GT isn't for everyone. In fact, its not for most people. We are surrounded by major factories within driving distance. Its not unthinkable that some recruits may not consider us. They haven't been considering us since the days when an engineer mad more than a pro football player.

POAD2014
POAD2014

@RuePaulJohnson......WnE....... and you ASSUME good football players are willing to work equally as HARD in the classroom as the playing field & weight room. Players from the Metro know how difficult The Institute is and most also know they don't have math skills to cut it at TECH so it is not in their top 5. Of the schools you mentioned how many kids from Georgia do they have on their teams? Of those players how many are in majors as difficult at the M-Train at TECH?

POAD2014
POAD2014

@RuePaulJohnson worst facilities? Really? you have to be kidding. Do you also know how much football and all sports training has changed since the 80's? how the game was played in the 60's to the 80's changed a lot and most schools were not on the cutting edge of weight rooms or medical staffs.

ARDawg2000
ARDawg2000

Oh my gosh. That is not what he said. Read his posts. He said that Tech should be in the top 5 for metro Atlanta recruits who have the academics for schools such as Stanford, vandy, Notre dame. Come on bob.

kerryb
kerryb

@gtcaryd @kerryb @RuePaulJohnson Typical Tech fan.  Living through other programs and conference to take on UGA.  First they always throw out the academics thing.  Then it's "so and so can beat you" knowing that they can't.

TampGator1

@RuePaulJohnson

I believe the ACC has the reigning national champion.  Don't recall any of the other power conferences beating an SEC team in a NC game, or even one of the other Power 5 conference teams, other than the SEC, winning a NC in a while.  The ACC was a strong conference last year and I think they are not very far behind the SEC right now, top to bottom.

GTBob
GTBob

@ARDawg2000 Yes, and my point still stands. UGA isn't in the top 5 of every major metro Atlanta recruit who can qualify academically. Neither is Auburn, or Alabama, or FSU, or anyone else within driving distance. Neither is Notre Dame or Stanford. Why exactly should GT be a top contender for every recruit who can qualify academically? What exactly is so appealing about GT that once a recruit gets past the academic doorstep that we should automatically be at the top of his list?

gtcaryd
gtcaryd

@RuePaulJohnson @gtcaryd The SEC Champ won't make the playoff? Now Rue i respectfully have to disagree with that. The ESPN gods will have no part of that Blasphemy.

gtcaryd
gtcaryd

@kerryb @gtcaryd @RuePaulJohnson Out of all those years of SEC domination in the BCS NC games, how many did the Dawgs win? How many did they play in? Oh yea, None and None. FSU won 3. Heck maybe UGA should move to the ACC?

gtcaryd
gtcaryd

@RuePaulJohnson Well lets talk CFB stupid. All you care to do is run your yapper about CPJ, psycho.

GTBob
GTBob

@RuePaulJohnson Im still waiting for an explanation for why no other GT head coach has ever been able to do what you are claiming should be easy for CPJ. Why weren't Ross, O'Leary, and even Dodd capable of accomplishing that incredibly easy task?

TampGator1
TampGator1

@RuePaulJohnson

Not sure what you are drinking.  Auburn and FSU were clearly the two best teams in the country at the end of the season last year. And it always takes some amount of luck to win a national title in college football.

POAD2014
POAD2014

Mike Banning WnE... 90% of teams that win National Championships in Football have to get LUCKY to accomplish that goal you F..ing maroon.

The Bama team that got to play LSU a second time? That BAMA team wasn't LUCKY? Bama never should have been in the MNC game after losing to LSU and not playing for the SEC Title. LSU with how many loses did they have and were given a shot at the title and they were not LUCKY................you are a freaking IDIOT.

GeorgeStein

@RuePaulJohnson Nope.   Sorry, but when SEC teams were winning, all we heard was that because the crystal football was there, it was the toughest conference.   You don't get to change the standard now.
