There’s a budding musician moving to Nashville, Tenn., next year.

And he also plays a little football.

Sam Dobbs, a 3-star tight end from Landmark Christian, committed to Vanderbilt on Thursday among nine early offers, which also included Georgia Southern, Air Force, and Davidson.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder was also getting hard looks from Duke, Florida, UGA and Auburn. Dobbs got an offer from Vanderbilt last week, and pounced on it in a hurry.

“I committed to Vanderbilt because of the coaches, and the location, especially being in Nashville,” Dobbs told the AJC. “I don’t know if you knew this: I’m actually a musician. I play guitar, piano and drum. That’s basically my No. 1 hobby outside of football. That’s what I like to do. You can’t really beat Nashville with all the music.

“After that, the academics at Vanderbilt are outstanding. I want to get a degree in engineering. And with the offense they run, and how they utilize the tight end position, it’s a great fit. They said I could flex out wide or play slot or H-Back.

Dobbs plays in a praise and worship band at his church. “I’m hoping to get involved with music in Nashville whenever I have the free time from football and school.”
