Does UGA still have a chance with 5-star?

By Michael Carvell

Does UGA still have a chance with 5-star Chuma Eodga?

If you recall, he was the top offensive lineman prospect on UGA’s board when he committed to USC earlier this spring.

Now all hope is not lost for UGA with McEachern High School star. The Bulldogs should have at least two more chances to make an impression.

Edoga confirmed to the AJC that he will visit UGA at least two more times before signing day.

He talked about UGA, the status of his USC commitment, and what it would take to change his mind in the below video:

I'd be surprised if he went to UGA for the simple reason that UGA doesn't offer the degree program that Edoga wants to study.

The big question is why he's not interested in GATech when his preferred course of study is available at Tech.

The chances are much better than most would think with Chuma Edoga flipping to UGA from USC... a lot of variables will have to come into play... but Chuma is smiling a little too much... I Will let this one quietly play itself out... Edawga will be at DawgNight July 18th with his Fam15 Friend's

One could dream what the dawgs could have been with theus, tunsil, and anyone of these top four oline men this yr. Being a dawg fan I do this a lot. People say this guy or that guy don't matter each recruiting cycle but these top five position players can pay huge dividends on the field. Here are some monsters we never should have lost. Denziel knemdiche practically begged uga to offer him and at this point in time anyone who half watched high school football had heard of his little brother Robert who was a monster 15 yr old at the time. Denziel has been a great linebacker for ole miss and wenall know little big brother would be in athens. We all know about laremy tunsil. Montravious Adams at auburn last yr. Carl Lawson grew up a huge uga fan we never offered the kid don't even won't to point out his stats. Tyler hunter starting safety for the national champs was a four star out of lowndes basically begged for an offer we never did even though his father and mother both played at the university and he was a top ten safety. Instead we have no safeties right now. Chance warmack I know without a shadow of doubt that we did not offer him BC he was a half inch shorter than what they consider dawg material at his position I know this for fact. Way to go on that. Saying all that we have also snagged some great players from other teams. But with those mentioned think of our dline depth with Adams and knemdiche and the guys we have now. Oh well. I love college football can't wait for the season.

Would be a huge get but don't see it happening BC if USC has a down yr and he opens up his recruitment you can bet bama will be in the mix and look at how their o line has performed with top end talent. Uga just can't keep these top o linemen in state. Mitch and this kid can flat out play. I saw Mitch blocks Robert knemdiche's jockstrap off when Mitch was a tenth grader I think.

Articles like this one are only fodder for those who suffer from UGA Obsession Disorder. The young man has given a verbal commitment to USC. Unless or until he decommits from there then there is no story.

Didn't I read somewhere that his older sister is already going to school at USC?  If that is true we probably will not flip him.

If he chose USC because of his major , there are a number of  schools with a better reputation for his major. The only way this guy flips is if we win the National Championship or are at least in the 4 team playoff.

He should have went to UCLA, they are going to be tough this year. They are the Auburn of the west coast. Hot team.

Hey RandyHall, have you gone down to campus yet and spoken with CWF about his performance?  Didn't think so!

I'm calling a flip on this kid right now and when he sees UGA smoke all these programs this fall it won't be a hard choice if he wants to stay near home.

I can't bash USC it's a fine school and storied program and I wish we had a one and one game with them in the future like ND.

Good luck with all this...

Go Dawgs!

Plus more than likely doesn't want to play for Will Friend!!!

Just look at that guy, he would look ridiculously bad in purple and yellow... California is falling into the ocean... Scott Howard yelling about how Eodga just mauled a Florida DE for an 12 yard gain would sound great on the radio!!!

@Saldiven  He wants a shot at the NFL.  When you run an offense that does not teach proper pass blocking technique no one with NFL aspirations will want to come to your school.  It is just that simple.

We offered Denziel in June of that year after he qualified academically but because Mississippi offered a week or two earlier he got an attitude as I will show them. 8 months before signing day is plenty of time to offer especially when it looked like he wasn't going to qualify because of his testing.

Adams would have followed Garner anywhere. Garner convinced him that he couldn't do without him helping him over the bumps in College. Just a scared kid who I bet has grown up a lot sense then.

Lawson was all about Garner not doing his job because he knew he would be going to Auburn as soon as Georgia wised up or he just left on his own to go to Auburn.

Most of our problems of the past were because Garner got past over as Defensive Coordinator. That is no longer a problem. Grantham is gone which is no longer a problem.

What you hope Richt has learned from this is you need to get rid of bad Coaches or Recruiter as soon as possible because they have  just as much negative  impact   on the team as the thugs that Richt has been getting rid of.

The only red flag left is Will Friend , in Recruiting top Offensive Linemen and the Offensive Linemen we have being able to dominate anybody. This year will be very important for him to prove himself as a Recruiter and Coach.

Beg to disagree 100 percent.  It is an update on one of the stare's top, committed recruits and a story worth your time obviously, I see.  If not, why did you visit and read the story?  Logic is a difficult thing for some to comprehend.  Or, did you visit just to troll like some others?  That is not illogical, but it is a waste of time and effort.

NCDawg
NCDawg

@thebucket I guess Mr.Carvell just found it interesting that Chuma is still going to take an official visit to Georgia, even though he says he is 100% committed.

Recruiting is just plain strange.  He is supposed to be out for Dawg Night and even though it shouldn't happen, there is still a chance he might flip.  You can't ever tell what might happen any more.

@Bubbatavious If you have  ever  read anything  about  Edogas recruiting  you would know Will Friend isn't  the  reason he  committed to USC, he  and  WF have  an exceptionally good  relationship.  Never mind  Georgia  had  the  7th ranked Oline  recruiting  class in 2014. Friend is a very good  O line  coach a major up grade over  Searles.

NCDawg

@C-Kirk I don't think she is school but she lives in LA.  And USC is surprisingly well rated in Aerospace.  The cards would have to fall just right for him to flip to Georgia.  I am talking about standing on edge type right.  lol

gtcaryd
gtcaryd

@C-Kirk Maybe just try to end up ranked, he is going to USC. We beat the crap out of them a couple of years ago. Don't think he is that interested in a NC team, i am sure he could have committed to Bama if he wanted.

@gtcaryd

But he would not play for UCLA.....this year.  And they lose a lot next year.

And......He should "go to UCLA" or "should have gone to UCLA."  He will......"went to USC"....... when he does. Sorry, but the misuse of those verbs, as well as get/gets, has always bothered me.

gtcaryd

@Red-Dog What programs are the dawgs going to smoke? At least you didn't bash USC.

NCDawg
NCDawg

@RandyHall  If you go back and read some of the things he has said Randy, you will discover that he loves  Coach Friend and all of our coaching staff.  The only reason he chose USC over Georgia is the fact they have a good aerospace program.

Your obsession with hating on Will Friend is nearly as creepy as the all day/every day trolls that occupy these blogs.  You might want to think about that a bit.

@C-Kirk @dawgs01 Georgia  was  #7 nationally in O line  recruiting in 2014. and The  Georgia  coaches  do not  just recruit  by position .

Well said Kirk, on the money. Garner has been lazy for awhile. Friend is on the hot seat, he/we have wiffed on too many Olinemen. Although I think Houston could be better this year and Beard. This should be Theus' big move year if he is really good.

@TampGator1 @thebucket  Thanks for proving my point. I am a UGA fan so I was hooked into the story because the headline said "Does UGA still have a chance with 5 star?" Then I watched the video and the first answer was, "I am still 100% committed to USC." Until that changes there is no story.

@NCDawg @C-Kirk Lol no I'm in school. I go to the University of Pennsylvania, so I can't live in LA obviously.

DawginCO

@Dawgilama  This has been explained many times on these blogs but people just don't seem to pay attention.  In Chuma's case, Mike Bobo is in on the recruiting with Will friend.  The position coach does get involved almost all the time but he isn't necessarily the primary recruiter all the time.  Bobo has proven to be a great closer.  We didn't lose Edoga for any failing in recruiting.  We simply could not provide the aeronautical engineering program he was looking for.  Hyatt was a legacy, he practically has been a Clemson Tiger since birth.  Warmack was a legacy.  The only true whiff as far as O-line recruiting we have had this year is Kim, and it is still 8 months until signing day.

Will Friend doesn't seem to be a dynamic recruiter but he does seem to be good at building relationships with the kids.  Chuma loves him and has said so on multiple occasions.  We had Tunsil until Ole Miss put him between a rock and a hard place.  And that sort of underhanded deal is honestly something that I bet Coach Richt never thought of.

But remember, Pruitt would still be at FSU if it weren't for his friendship with Friend and the quick action taken by Coach Richt.  So there is that to consider as well.

thebucket
thebucket

@TampGator1 @thebucket  BTW, how can a UGA fan troll a story about UGA? Logic would dictate that you are the troll trying to get a rise out of me. Better luck next time because I have to get to my honey-do list.

NCDawg

@gtcaryd  Sark was at Washington and their colors are Purple and Gold, maybe that was what he was thinking.

C-Kirk
C-Kirk

@DawginCO @Dawgilama

That is why Friend isn't getting any more grief  than he is. His friendship with Pruitt is probably what got him to leave Florida State , so that alone give Friend another year to prove himself. Hopefully between Bobo and Pruitt he can learn how to get that relationship going a few years before the Recruit has to sign.

Most of this advice doesn't mean anything and a few weaknesses will be overlooked if we just win. I will never forget the smug look on Tunsil's girlfriends face when he chose Mississippi over Georgia. She was getting a free education at Mississippi and she didn't care, any, how it was going to affect Taremy or what may be best for him. The pressure she put on Tunsil was probably amazing.
