Georgia Tech has landed one of the state’s top running backs in Alexander High School’s Mikell Lands-Davis.
The 3-star recruit committed to Georgia Tech over UNC, N.C. State and Clemson on Friday.
“I picked Georgia Tech for many reasons,” Lands-Davis told the AJC. “It’s close to home, which is an advantage. That’s nice because I’m from Georgia and I know some players already at Georgia Tech. I feel like the recruiting class they have right now looks pretty solid, and I feel like I help that out a lot. It looks really good to play early there.”
The 5-foot-11, 205-pounder is rated as the No. 55 overall prospect out of Georgia.
Lands-Davis is commit No. 12 for Georgia Tech’s 2015 class, and the team’s third commit at running back. Lands-Davis is projected to play B-Back for the Yellow Jackets.
“They want me to play B-Back,” Lands-Davis said. “They’ve got Zach Laskey, and another other guy on the roster who is a senior. They’ve got a freshman coming in who can play either B-Back or A-Back. They told me right away that I could start, if I go in there and earn it.
“What they told me is that B-Back is more of a power back. They said I have a lot more tools. They said how they use B-Back depends a lot on the tools of the players there. They said after Anthony Allen, they haven’t really had the talent there to do things that they want to do at B-Back.
“They said with me they would do sweeps and a lot more at the position. They want to use me like Jonathan Dwyer.”
There's just no RBs that really stand out in GA like most years. No traditional backs. And scouts wonder about Griffin's durability—
