Georgia Tech has landed one of the state’s top running backs in Alexander High School’s Mikell Lands-Davis.

The 3-star recruit committed to Georgia Tech over UNC, N.C. State and Clemson on Friday.

“I picked Georgia Tech for many reasons,” Lands-Davis told the AJC. “It’s close to home, which is an advantage. That’s nice because I’m from Georgia and I know some players already at Georgia Tech. I feel like the recruiting class they have right now looks pretty solid, and I feel like I help that out a lot. It looks really good to play early there.”

The 5-foot-11, 205-pounder is rated as the No. 55 overall prospect out of Georgia.

Lands-Davis is commit No. 12 for Georgia Tech’s 2015 class, and the team’s third commit at running back. Lands-Davis is projected to play B-Back for the Yellow Jackets.

“They want me to play B-Back,” Lands-Davis said. “They’ve got Zach Laskey, and another other guy on the roster who is a senior. They’ve got a freshman coming in who can play either B-Back or A-Back. They told me right away that I could start, if I go in there and earn it.

“What they told me is that B-Back is more of a power back. They said I have a lot more tools. They said how they use B-Back depends a lot on the tools of the players there. They said after Anthony Allen, they haven’t really had the talent there to do things that they want to do at B-Back.

“They said with me they would do sweeps and a lot more at the position. They want to use me like Jonathan Dwyer.”

Welcome to Ga Tech.

You know what I don't understand? If I were a hot-shot high school running back, I would be begging for a Tech scholarship! Run, run, run...I'd be in heaven!

It's sad, but these players today don't love playing the game, they're only concerned with getting a payday in the NFL. I hate it...

Just a little fun fact, the trio of Lands-Davis, Nathan Cottrell (A back commitment) and Jaylend Ratliffe (QB commitment) combined 9011 total yards and 108 yds last year :-)

All of those highlights in the video are from his junior year?  Apparently the kid had 9,000 yards rushing last year.

GT should not be able to accept commits unless offers are also from Mars Hill, Elon and Fordham, etc. for that player. Stealing players from VT,Miami, NC and Auburn should be a recruiting violation!  Changing your recruiting approach and having success is bothersome.  Just go back to being comfortable and we can once again forget about you.  As it stands now, your are irritating a lot of people.  So STOP IT!!!!

Talented RB for sure.  Will be interesting to see what happens if UGA or other Big Boys offers.

Distance was a factor in his decision, so Miami, Michigan, and Wisconsin weren't in it, but the offers were legit. Thomas Brown was recruiting him for Wiscy and he visited there just a couple of weeks ago.

This is the best B-back commit we've had since Dwyer left, ratings wise.

Mikell looks great.

Wonder if any of his O line teammates are available?..... since he is untouched almost every play.........

I think tech is working on its best class under Johnson. These kid will be at 225 by his sophomore yr and could be heavier than that and at 5'10 that's a load. Great get.

Thanks AJ.  Going to be interesting to see if the hype for MLD even APPROACHES the hype for Custis...

247 Composite score of 0.865 is actually higher than Travis Custis' composite score of 0.85.

Best RB recruit for CPJ ever?

PJ recruiting more the way we should be. This kid is an exciting prospect. Hope we can get all these verbals inked.

Looks like he has pretty good speed and is hard to bring down.   Good thing is,  at his age he'll probably put on another 10-15 lb and then certainly will be a load to bring down.

From an outsider looking in, this appears to be hands down the best class that Tech has seen since CPJ came to town.  Congrats to the young man and the institution.

Go Dawgs!

This was a HUGE need after losing Custis. He wont have alot of competition once he arrives. Wilson and Leggett are the only 2 on the roster after this year. Good choice Mikell. Make Dville and GT proud by whipping up on some LBs in 2015

I agree with Mikell, really solid class coming on the heals of a nice 2014 group. Going to be very interesting in 2 years when 2014/15  talent is on the field.

No fan fare with his announcement; he just tweeted he committed to GA Tech. This tells me that this young man is exactly the type of person, and player, who will succeed with the Jackets.

Congratulations to Mikell and his entire family. We look forward to seeing you soon on the Flats!

@Whiskey Clear He's rated a 4-star by 247sports but 3-star by 247sports composite rankings, which combine the four recruiting services

@GTJoe Myles Autry was rated .8865 and was recruited as an A-back.  As far as B-backs go, Lands-Davis is the highest rated.

@SvenOttke I saw that on one of the recruiting websites. I asked him about his finalists, and he told me Clemson, UNC and NC State
