Arizona coach Rich Rodriquez likes Georgia talent

By Michael Carvell

The University of Arizona has only one football player from Georgia on its 2014 roster.

But Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez is hoping to add more, he told the AJC’s D. Orlando Ledbetter at a charity golf event in Greensboro on Monday.

“We still come out here to the Atlanta area a little bit in recruiting,” Rodriguez said. “Our coaching staff has a good bit of experience out here. If we can get guys to visit, that’s the key. If we can get guys from this area to come out to the desert in Tucson, we’ve got a great shot to get them. And once we do that, it’ll be a pipeline that keeps coming out West.”

The Arizona pipeline so far consists of Jack Banda, redshirt freshman tight end from Grayson High School.

Hell, I didn't even know RR was still coaching and I sure don't know squat about Arizona football.... I'm not sure I wan't too. Post a few cheerleader pic's next time you throw us a cure ball.

UGA would better served to get more South Georgia boys.

FSU sure knows this.

UGA has sucked of late because it no longer recruits South Georgia much.

Coach Richt needs to realize the talent in this state.  He has made a huge mistake spending so much time in Florida and other states.  He's alienated Georgia high school coaches and can't even recruit Gwinnett County (the largest producer of Division I talent in the State).  Why go to Florida when you can drive 20 miles and see the best talent in the country at Buford and North Gwinnett.  There is no instate talent in TN and little in SC, we should beat TN and SC 100-0 every year.  If Spurrier coached UGA (not that I want that) he would have at least 4 NC during the time we have had Richt.  I attended Milton High School and that is the biggest UGA area perhaps in the state (a lot of two parent UGA grads), yet despite Milton's success at basketball, baseball and football we get no players.  Four baseball players this year signed D-1, Clemson (2), Miss State and Vanderbilt.  If you don't think they all wanted to play for UGA you're crazy.  We forget, UGA has 6 CWS appearances and 1 CWS Championship, GT has 3 and 0.

Perhaps Rich Rod doesn't have a map - the state bordering his to the West is the largest producer of NCAA and NFL talent in the nation.

I would think the expense to travel back and forth from school to home would be a problem for a lot of kids. Or, can the schools give the kid funds for travel?

Only reason I'd go across country to  Arizona to play football is for the women. The women out there are a different breed of good looking. There are beauties in Georgia too, but for some reason west coast women just have it.

I live in AZ and there's a lot of HS talent both in football and ladies softball.  Most of the talent leaves the state for west coast and SW area schools.  I know the GA softball team recruits out here but doubt our football team even sends a letter to prospects. GA got Stafford out of TX they ought to look harder in AZ as well.

Why would they go to Arizona when they could spend 4 years in Tuscaloosa? I hear Tuscaloosa is becoming quite cosmopolitan. Indoor plumbing and desegregation. They may even use a black QB.

Why go to crappy Athens or Arizona when you can experience Tuscaloosa and all the surrounding beauty and culture of rural Alabama.

Well as long as he leaves our three star OL in state talent alone I am fine. he can have the rest.

Help suck up the talent that wants to leave our state.  I don't want any of them going to Urban Cryier @ Ohio "always overrated" State.

btw, what is with the Falcon bias against the best football region in the country??????

Rich,

Go after athletic offensive linemen. Richt doesn't want 'em.

David Yankey, the top offensive guard in America, is from Alpharetta and plays at Stanford! The best high school offensive tackle in America, McEachern's Chuma Egoda is headed for Southern Cal!

No wonder UGA fans were named the most tortured fan base in America. They lose to Vandy and Nebraska, then watch the migration of these studs out of state.

It's got to be tough being a Dawg.

Hey Rich,

Come get athletic offensive linemen. Richt doesn't want 'em.

He handed us OG Chance Warmack and OTJames Carpenter, two All-Americans who led us to 3 National Titles, and were 1st round draft picks.

Then he turns around and does the same thing for FSU, Tre Jackson, an offensive guard from Waycross and the best left tackle in America, Cameron Irving from Moultrie, led the 'Noles to a National Title.

Jimbo and Nick ought to send Richt a ring. With the way he recruits in state offensive linemen, he ain't gonna get one otherwise.

wow...Rich likes Georgia talent?? who'da thunk it...not too concerned about a exodus of Peach state talent heading to the desert...I'm sure its beautiful, but it's a long way and it isn't the SEC...go dogs

Most all Bama fans are grateful that Rich Rod's wife Rita didn't want to move to Bama from West Virginia! Oh Boy that puts us down doesn't it.

The state of ga have better athletes than most states and it has produced 4 heisman trophy winners (George Rogers, Herschel Walker, Charlie Ward and Cam Newton) Rodriguez knows this.

Heck, there are enough good players here that uga and gt don't need to recruit in other states. Think about the money they'll save if they just recruit the state of ga.

Firesomebody......UA is a very good school and Tucson is a neat city.  5 to 6 mons of the year the heat is just unbearable.  Don't give me that crap about low humidity, it's HOT!

imagine a Dawg roster after 3 to 4 years of signing say 7 or 8 of the top rated players in this state vs getting 2 or 3 of them. Can you say NC.

96JB

Yep, bring them to Tucson in August for summer work outs at 125 degrees and see how they like it.

I hope he doesn't get any OL, poor Will Friend catches enough grief already.

After the first 50 or 75 commit what does it matter where the other 150  go to College. Now if Coach Rich can pull any of the top 25 from Georgia then that will be newsworthy . If I wanted to play in the PAC -12 that bad my first three choices would be Stanford, UCLA and USC. I didn't include Oregon because it rains too much. But , the point is Arizona would be way down the list.

Which school doesn't? And it shows...all the SEC schools come here and get some f the best....Clemson, FSU, Stanford, Ohio State, etc....they love the talent and know it can be snatched up....it can be changed dramatically by CMR WINNING A NC...IT IS TIME!!

Arizona is a decent school in a fun college town.  There are worse places to spend 4 years.

@UnbiasedObserver This fellow is right, UGA has never had a great team without being well represented from South Georgia. Herschel, Belue,Garrison Hurst and I could go on and on.

@MesaDawg we are more likely to get the states best there then we are at home. I agree. GA players seem to have a liking to high crime towns over Athens....at least their parents do.

But............UGA has N E V E R     NEVER      N E V E R      EV E R     lost to  Louisiana  Monroe

(some unknown JC) but it did happen to Turd_Roll's favorite team and in Tuskeloser. Oh  the shame of losing at home to a Junior College!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@TIDE_ROLL Richt can't make them come to Athens...if we all could make everyone do what we wanted them to do,  I promise, you wouldn't be posting on here...go dogs

@TIDE_ROLL It must also be tough being logically challenged.  "Richt doesn't want 'em."  So UGA never expressed interest in Chuma Edoga?  That's news to anyone who follows recruiting.

@TIDE_ROLL There's no excuse for not keeping those kids in state.  It's a black eye for the UGA coaching staff.

@KeepOnSmilingWetWillie She is one wonderful woman.

We should have all sent her roses. These wives have such a powerful

influence on these coaches. We need to thank Terry Saban more.

Notre Dame doesn't bring recruits to South Bend during one of it's snow storms that gives them 5 feet of annual snow fall or single digit temperature or below,   either . A lot of the times these Recruits don't think about what weather some of these Schools have during the year.

@RandyHall (aka   Whining Bitching Randy)

Last  time I checked the best college RB combo in America plays for CMR and he has a 5* RB

freshly signed. None of these 3 are from Georgia so maybe a coach goes out-of-State to fill team needs!!!!!!!!!!!!

@FireSomebody It is hot as hell and that dry heat doesn't make it better.

You are constantly in search of AC and water.

@67Dawg @TIDE_ROLL The Edoga saga isn't over, yet.  I think UGA still has a great chance with this talented young man.
