‘State’s fastest man’ to attend UGA’s Dawg Night

By Michael Carvell

The player who some scouts call “the state’s fastest man” will be at UGA’s “Dawg Night” prospect camp.

Jeremy McDuffie is a senior cornerback from Shiloh High School who has arguably been the state’s hottest prospect since obliterating the state championship track meet in May.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound McDuffie almost single-handily delivered Shiloh the team state championship in the Georgia’s largest classification (AAAAAA).

He placed first in the 110 high hurdles, 300 intermediate hurdles and triple jump. His time in the 110 was 13.83 seconds, which was sixth-fastest in the nation for a high schooler this season.

The college football world took notice of the blazing times, with South Carolina, Duke, Iowa, Minnesota, Georgia Tech and Wisconsin almost immediately extending scholarship offers.

McDuffie has Florida and Duke as his leaders, with Tennessee also in the mix. UGA wants to evaluate McDuffie at camp on Friday.

A FEW THINGS REALLY NEED TO HAPPEN AT UGA! #1. Upgrade there OL Coach. #2 Please explain to the loyal fans why neighboring states always seem to find these guys before we, THE IN STATE TEAM does? Why is it not a instant lock on going after this state top fifty players there junior years? Mark Richt lovers, this is why there are ZERO NAT'L CHAMPIONSHIPS in his era. Nick comes and wins with Georgia born players, LSU with Georgia born players. Ole Miss(I mean really) was able to get the #1 player in the nation in 2013(Nkimdeche) and steal a virtual lock on signing day(Tunsil). What is wrong with this program? Gardner leaves and is coaching in a Nat'l Title in his first year. What the heck is wrong with this program?

Here we go again being late to the dance as far as an offer goes BUT I agree with 96JB.  If we could pick up some stud OL and DL I'd take it.  Build the team inside out!!!!!!!!!!

Would trade his speed for a 3,4 or 5 star 6"5" 280 pound lineman.

Do they do randoms at dawg night, that might save a lot of time and money.

Before all you haters jump on Richt for not offering yet, remember one thing:  While speed is great, and cannot be coached, it does not always translate into a great CB.

@Gopher86 fans like you.  that's the only thing wrong with the program.  zero understanding of football or recruiting and you come to the ajc and show your ignorance.  recruiting is not our problem.  will friend is not our problem.  the defense was and still is the problem.  hopefully pruitt turns it around.

@Gopher86 Garner had nothing to do with what happened at Auburn last year.  Malzahn already had players in place that were right for his system from when he was OC a couple of years back.  Garner tanked it on the Dawgs his last 3 years.  Anyone that isn't hate crazed knows that even with a crappy D last year, that Georgia was legitimate contender until the injuries took out our top 2 RBs and top 4 WRs.  No team could have overcome that completely.

It requires more than good players and good coaching to win a national championship.  The championship winning coaches will all tell you that things have to fall your way at the right times as well.  That hasn't happened for Georgia yet.  We need to get our defense up to snuff and that is already in process.  That greatly increases the odds that things like the 2012 SEC CG fall a different way in the future.  Even 50 fewer rushing yards by Bama in that game alters the outcome in the Dawgs' favor.  And that would have most likely been the National Championship everybody clamours for.

@Gopher86 #1 Track speed DOES NOT equal football speed. That's why UGA wants to evaluate him first. #2, stop crying about losing in-state prospect. Aaron Murray, Todd Gurley, Matthew Stafford, A.J. Green, none of them are from in-state. Since you don't even know these basic things, don't call yourself a loyal fan, please.

@Gopher86 All those teams you mentioned have won NC except Ole Miss, that one was because of Mama Nkimdeche. Rodney got mad about the Beaver making more money than him. Besides CRG is an AU man anyhow. And  UGA does not want to win at all costs, others don't mind. That's what they say anyhow.

@Kushdawg Nobody's late to anything.  He hasn't earned an offer yet.  If the staff had seen enough on tape to extend one, they would have.  He was invited to come to Athens and perform in person, and he's taking them up on it.  Sounds like both parties are comfortable with where they stand relative to one another.  Not sure why the railbirds aren't.

@96JB We will get linemen and they will be good.  Great linemen alone do not make a great offense.  See UT last year.  You must have players to exploit the line play.  I wish everybody would take a chill on the obsessing over the line.  Go back and look at the end of the SC and UF games if you need reassurance.  We ran over 2 very good defenses.  I bet you didn't even remember that.

@Woofer  Ok he's fast, that is awesome.  But can he play football.  I have known very fast individuals that I wouldn't recruit to a high school much less a FBS program.  I have 1 guy in mind and if you'd tackled him you'd have broken him in half.  But he sure could fly.

@gtcaryd

I guess.  But I do know this, if you do not have good lines of scrimmage, nothing good is going to happen!  Pretty simple sport really at the end of the day it is all about who blocks and tackles the best.  Just my HO.  Go DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!

Kushdawg

Regarding the SC and UF games you are 100% correct.  But WHY did we run over 2 very good defenses?  Because of the OL.  If they don't block, we don't run.  If they don't block, Murray is trying to throw from his back.  It takes a village!

gtcaryd

@KeepOnSmilingWetWillie Why wouldn't any school do that? Heck if they were going for a job at Mcdonalds they would be subjected to those tests, if your going to hit them with randoms, might as well get it over with. Especially UGA with their policy, might save them some grief.

If UGA's OL was so unworthy how does a true freshman RB, not highly rated as a recruit, average over 5yds/carry???????

Get a clue BOZO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Listen Knucklehead.  Murray set all kinds of passing records so you got to believe somebody was doing a little something. You and your ilk who think you know more than coaches being paid multi-millions of dollars/year are either trolls or are among the biggest bunch of Knuckle-dragging  DUMBA$$es. on the planet s just STFU!!!!  You are embarrassing yourselves so obviously y'all couldn't find your a$$es with a GPS!!!!!!!!!

@Kushdawg  The way these people obsess over our line you'd think we had a terrible o-line.  If you want a benchmark look at Michigan's o-line.  That's terrible.  Our line is pretty good, not great, just pretty good.  They had some bad moments but nowhere near enough to warrant the level of moaning I have seen this off season.  Yeah we missed out on some top linemen so far but that doesn't mean the class is a failure.  It's a long way until February.  Who knows, maybe all these supposed studs lay an egg their senior season and Georgia grabs the kid that has grown into a stud because the other guys took his scholarship earlier and Georgia still had one for him.

@gtcaryd @KeepOnSmilingWetWillie Just contacted a friend that owns and runs a couple of Mickey Ds. They only drug test managerial applicants. He says that's the norm for most food industry jobs. Although if the SEC started drug testing high school juniors and seniors when they came to their football camps, I believe they'd be shooting themselves in their d1@ks. And I'm an SEC fan.

gtcaryd
gtcaryd

@Bearhand @gtcaryd @KeepOnSmilingWetWillie Yea, i never said anyone would show up. But the ones that did would be a safe gamble with that rough drug policy the dawgs have. That's where they shoot themselves in the D$%K, a strickter policy than the other schools doesn't help you out, it hurts you.

@FireSomebody @gtcaryd @Kushdawg I don't recall saying a word about how many NFL lineman he has. I am talking about his philosophy of O linemen, it is well documented. Bobby Bowden taught it to him. He is very good at putting players in the NFL, that's one of the biggest knocks against him, where's the crystal?

@gtcaryd  Please provide one shred of written evidence supporting his "well documented" philosophy regarding OLmen.  Just one little link will suffice.
