Florida Gators football recruit flips to UGA

By Michael Carvell

After losing three out of four starters in the defensive secondary during a troubled offseason, UGA is quickly adding some manpower to the position.

Deontai Williams, a 3-star safety from Jacksonville, flipped from Florida to UGA on Saturday. It was first reported by 247sports.com’s Rusty Mansell.

The 6-foot, 175-pound Williams had been committed to Florida since last January. And his change of mind leaves the Gators with only nine commitments for 2015.

Meanwhile, UGA now has 16 commitments for 2015. The Bulldogs have added two defensive backs in the last 24 hours, including Friday’s pledge of Shaquery Wilson of Miami at Dawg Night prospect camp.

Earlier this spring, UGA dismissed safeties Tray Matthews (now at Auburn) and Josh Harvey-Clemons (now at Lousville), while cornerback Shaq Wiggins (now at Louisville) because he was “looking for a team who will embrace my personality.”

3 Stars?  We will stick to our 4 and 5 Star recruits in this great Gator Nation! Blue Chip. Best of luck in GA.

Fidlin, don't forget, we will chew your appendages then swallow your pride.

No surprise--florida's program is in disarray and muschamp may not last into next year---players want to play for big time programs winning a bunch of games.  Fla will probably win 6-7 games with another beatdown from the dogs!!!

Like I told snaggalfart and his slow friends. You talking to a die hard dawg fan. You'll just have to forgive me when, I say that I expect more from Richt. You fellas, apparently not so much. Who the heck made you the dawg police? The dawgs have only so many scholarship offers left to hand out and we don't need any more db's. Crap do some research. Crap we need O-Linemen and defensive tackles. More than half the recruits we have now are db's and de's and we are still offering at least 3 other db's and at least 2 more de's.

I know that some 3 star players turn out to be great players. Heck I even took a look at the Williams kids video. I was impressed with his tackling. Not bad at all. Still I would have rather Mark Richt save some of those scholarships he's offering to these guys, for those 4 and 5 star db's they're trying so hard to land.

I bet you fellas felt pretty good when we landed those 5 star players. A lot better than hearing we landed a couple 3 stars. If you didn't, then you are no doubt in the minority.

You post for the dawgs the way you wish and I'll post the way I will. I think after 47 years of rooting for them, I deserve to root them on the way I please. If you don't think so. Tough, I could give a rats arse what you think.

SAD,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,UGA gets excited about a 3 STAR.

3 STARS will not get you to a NATTY.

Teams are going to come out throwing the ball on these guys from the get go. How about getting some OL and DL.................................Skill players are nice, but you will not get there without the big guys.

1980 was so long ago.

Looks like we're going to get all the skill players we want, so I'm delighted to see Pruitt getting all these defensive players. Offense is fun, but defense wins championships.............just think how many championships we would have had if we would have had a defense the last 14 years.........call me a koolaid drinker if you will, but I'm confident coach Pruitt is the answer to Georgia's problems............Richt and Bobo will always light-up the scoreboard...........I'm pumped !!!..............GO DAWGS  !!!!

I bet Georgia is number 1 for 2016 so far with  2 -5 Stars.

Come on 2015, 4 and 5-Star  Recruits. You  need to set a huge president for the Recruits in 2016. Remember we play Alabama in 2015 in Athens and you will be there.

2 huge commits for 2016! WOW!

@caneowar Luckily Jeremy Pruitt is evaluating these guys and not us UGA fans.  Thomas Davis was a 2 Star. What if we passed him over..We have to trust JP who has some rings to prove his logic.  This year will be his year to prove he can make an immediate impact.

stars mean absolutely nothing once the kid gets on campus, if he can play that is all that matters

@TampGator1 Who cares? Sounds like you suffer from a serious inferiority complex. Gotta let the world know about your team when in reality no one cares.

Why can't 3 star recruits get you national championships?

@MUSCLECAR

You must not have kept  up with this years first round draft choices.

Right at half or one or two from being half were 3 - Star or worst when they committed.

Florida loses a 3-star safety (one of the deepest, most talented, and youngest spots on the roster) and the program is a "dumpster fire."  Great cognitive skills, there, Nole.  I bet you would have trouble figuring out that you have to pay for shellfish at Publix as well.

DawgGoneIt

@willardkovacs Yeah because we all know he has no chance to get any bigger than he is now as a junior in high school

@C-Kirk So frigging what if we play alabama in 2015 they can be beaten like every one else,

@OGTripleOG

Triple I whole hardly agree. It's just that the dawgs have only so many scholarships left to offer and they're still trying to sign DB's and DE's when more than half the commitments they have so far are DE's and DB's. Shoot when the season starts I will be pulling for those "3 star" players as much as I will be for the higher ranked players. I'm just saying that with only so many ships left to offer, the dawgs should be a little more picky. Of course if Richt is going to take the Nick Saban rule of recruiting, then by all means. Take all the commitments you can muster.

Because I post about Florida and talk about the SEC?  Brilliant deduction.  Wish I had thought of it first, dog gone it!

Ditto!

Astounding that he regularly seems to think someone on a sports blog in UGA territory gives a damn about what his gators are doing--much less in the offseason.

How many stars did Thomas Davis have? Coaches have to do their own evaluations and not depend on some recruiting service.

And you were getting on me for being "personal" earlier on here.  But I don't think I called anyone an............."idiot."  Kind of personal in nature if you asked me.

Just getting at you Tampa. I know life sucks right now for you and your team. It sucked when we needed to get rid of Bowden after he lost his mojo and needed to transition to a new head coach. The dumpster fire remark was I reference to the entire season. Just a friendly jab buddy.

DawgGoneIt
DawgGoneIt

@TampGator1 Wow an "attack" on Winston personally huh? It's sad you had no comeback for FSU's football team. They just went 14-0 and won a natty while you went 4-8 and lost to Georgia Southern and failed to qualify for a bowl game. What could you possibly say?

@aladawg47 @C-Kirk Just ask bama fans how they felt last year, losing to Auburn and the Sooners. actually the sooner punked bama

@BobDog77 2 stars,  you took my point right out of my mouth...the kid reminds me of a Thomas David.

Sounds like these Gator fans are the ones upset. they were all Happy when they signed him now he is all of a sudden no good? lol nice logic there.

@Atl_Nole

Thanks.  You have the right to brag and jab at the moment.  GatorNation had that right not long ago.  Muschamp is getting the shipped righted....and I expect the Gators will be a load to handle for any team this year.  You have a great QB as well.

TampGator1

@DawgGoneIt

I can say Florida had a horrible season in 2013 and Georgia had a very disappointing season, including an embarrassing loss to Nebraska in a bowl game.  Both outcomes do not make either program a dumpster fire. But even a stolen shellfish could figure that out, dog gone it.

Nah, TG1 always says it's "just poking fun" when he levels those personal attacks. Hypocrite is his middle name.

@Dawgnation55 @aladawg47 @C-Kirk

Saban's been obsessed with correcting his failures of last year since January. If Auburn beat Alabama and Georgia again this year it won't be because of Marshall. It will be because they have a great Defense. Alabama and Georgia will be ready for Duel Threat play action Quarterback's this year.

@DawgGoneIt @Jack5150 he's just emulating his Bama buddies...he likes to nip at UGA's heels and ride their comments on UGA...it's what happens when you don't have a football team...go dogs

bdog9seclx
bdog9seclx

@TampGator1 @DawgGoneIt UGAs season was an inverse season to Auburns.  Auburn had 5 games that could of gone either way just like UGA did..UGA was within a score on each of their loses. Lets look at Auburns 5 Wins that could of easily been losses  Washington State won by 7...Miss St. last second end zone pass...A&M last minute comeback....UGA...well Prayer at Jordan-Hare (they wont admit a miracle but name it that) then BAMA.  that's 5 games that could of well gone the other way. Just like UGA did with a 70% capacity team.  And after the year before that I would say Auburns not winning 1 SEC game would call it a dumpster fire. When that same year UGA was a throw away from the Natty.  Would of could of should of right?  But this year Auburn cant rely on 5 games where they win by way of miracle or last second scores...If they are so dominant then beat all those teams by a wide margin.  Like the Mizz game.
