Jaylend Ratliffe, who is committed to play quarterback at Georgia Tech, suffered a serious head injury in an ATV accident on Tuesday, according to multiple reports.

Ratliffe suffered a fractured skull and was flown by helicopter to Charlotte for further medical treatment, per fayobserver.com’s Earl Vaughan Jr. “Ratliffe and some other members of the Scotland football team were riding ATVs at an undetermined location in Laurinburg (N.C.), the source said. Reportedly, the driver lost control of the vehicle he and Ratliffe were on and when the driver tried to correct, the ATV flipped and threw the riders off.”

The website also reported that Ratliffe is suffering from bleeding on brain and will likely undergo surgery.

Ratliffe led Scotland High School to an appearance in last year’s state championship game in North Carolina.

Check back for updates.

Hate it for the young man, his family and the Tech nation, hope  he has a full and speedy recovery.  Just goes to show you how you can be having a good time with your friends just being kids and it can change in an instant to a battle for your life.  Again hate to hear and see this and hope he has a full and speedy recovery.

Kudos to all you Georgia fans expressing your concern and support for this young man.  With the exception of one incredibly offensive post made early on last night by someone who I doubt was a fan of any school, all the posts, without exception, have been positive and meaningful.  Fortunately, that one disgusting post was promptly deleted. God bless you all, and God bless Jaylend.

My prayers go out to this young man and his family.  There are more important things than football.

That being said, I am waiting for a post from Rue/Whener on how this is CPJs fault.

Lots of class shown here, where the rivalry just goes away.  Prayers for this kid and his family, for a full recovery.  Once he gets on the field against the dawgs, I will then root against him.

Can we assume he was riding the ATV without a helmet.  Hopefully if he recovers and can continue his short lived fb career he will remember his helmet.

bulldogsteve, Saban did nothing magical to honor a scholarship.  GT has done it before as well (4 times by my count since CPJ arrived).  It is a standard NCAA policy to allow for a school to provide a medical scholarship to a player who can no longer play the game, whether he is already on the team or a part of the incoming class.  They automatically do not count against the 85.  CPJ will do as he has done 4 or more times before and honor it.

Hopefully CPJ can pull a Saban and still get him in school on a scholarship and have it not count against the 85.

I am a University of Georgia alumnus who enjoys the good-natured (but certainly not the inane) ribbing between our fanbases, but there is something stronger than even Clean Old-Fashioned Hate:  human decency and compassion.

I join my Tech brothers and sisters in lifting my prayers for this young man and his family.

To You, LORD, I call; You are my Rock, do not turn a deaf ear to me. For if You remain silent, I will be like those who go down to the pit. Hear my cry for mercy as I call to You for help, as I lift up my hands toward Your Most Holy Place. ~ Psalm 28:1-2 (King David)

Let faith arise for the Ratiffe family and I pray that Jaylend will rest in the shadow of God's healing right hand... God Speed!

Supersize,

I agree the bozo is probably not a fan of any school....just an idiot. It crosses a sacred line when you let rivalries get in the way of caring for your fellow man. This is a terrible story and I wish Jaylend a speedy and thorough recovery.

"Once he gets on the field against the dawgs, I will then root against him. "

and that's okay too, cuz if he gets back on the field it will mean he came through this nightmare for he and his family! :-) Then we can get back to COFH ;-)

Go Jaylend!

@W2XAB Something I wish was mentioned. Of course, you can look at Michael Schumacher's accident. He was wearing a helmet and suffered severe injury.

@GT_Rich It is not automatic either. Unless the player signed a scholly then it's not automatic. Bama has to get the NCAA to allow this plan with Shaw because he didn't sign a scholly on NSD.
