4-star commits to UGA

By Michael Carvell

UGA got off to a slow start with recruiting offensive linemen in this year’s class, but things are really picking up.

Patrick Allen, a 4-star offensive lineman from Maryland, committed to UGA over Ohio State and FSU on Monday night.

The 6-foot-5, 285-pounder is pledge No. 18 for UGA’s 2015 class, and the third on the offensive line.

Allen still plans to take official visits to other schools this fall, but went ahead and picked the Bulldogs.

“Seeing (Allen) in a person was a big deal,” 247sports.com’s Rusty Mansell said. “He was a lot different prospect in person than I thought. He had incredible length. I mean, his reach was ungodly — it was like Greg Robinson measurements.

“He was 6-foot-5 and 285 pounds with a wingspan around 6-8. That’s huge with offensive linemen because it’s so important to get your hands on the defensive players and make it more difficult to engage you.

“That’s a big one there with Allen for Georgia. They pushed him to the limit at (Mark Richt Camp). They really tested him and Sage Hardin (at camp) as hard as I’ve seen them push any kids. Mark Richt did not leave those reps (from watching them).”

After missing on elite in-state offensive linemen such as North Gwinnett’s Mitch Hyatt (committed to Clemson), McEachern’s Chuma Edoga (USC), and Mill Creek’s Kaleb Kim (committed to Auburn), UGA has turned around the momentum. The Bulldogs are also considered a top contender for 3-star Emanuel McGirt of Durham, N.C. He de-committed from UNC this week.

“I kept telling people when it was brought up to me to be patient because I knew there were a lot of guys on the board that they were recruiting, including Patrick Allen,” Mansell said. “Now Emanuel McGirt is another guy who could end up being a Georgia guy. And they’re certainly going to recruit Chuma Edoga until the end.

“Georgia did their homework, and worked these guys out. They were able to go after some top targets and land them.”

It’s the second commitment in as many days for UGA, which picked up former Parkview High School running back Chris Carson on Monday.

Is it really a commitment if a player commits and then says he will take other visits?

In all seriousness it is a long time until NSD. I like Allen's measurable, but you have to finish the drill!

@AlternativeDawg

Aren't you glad he can't get to you, jerk? All your comments are of the jerk variety.

His ability to focus while having a huge tarantula on his head is impressive.

Huge catch for UGa. According to Rivals, Patrick is a Top 100 recruit, the #11 OT and has offers from LSU, Florida, FSU, Michigan, OS, USC, etc. Go Dawgs!!!

Coach Mark Richt and Coach Will Friend have lost control of the offensive line.

Way to go CMR.  Combined with the Cleveland commitment this makes for a couple of good weeks.  If Allen and Cleveland pan out UGA will have a couple of manimals at OT in 2-3 years.  Let's keep going after those elite O-linemen.

The real story is Ryan Bartow announcing, on Twitter, the young mans decision before he could. I am in no way a Georgia fan, but for the media (Bartow) to ruin the young man's moment just to be the first to report it, is a bush move.

Congrats to the young man and hope he does well, what's R. Hall think about him?

Allen will never play a down for the Tanned One. "Yeah I am committing to Georgia, but I am going to take a few dozen other visits anyway". Yeah, that's the ticket.

This fight is far from over. He is still taking official visits to other schools this fall. Sounds really committed.

Assuming this kid is about 17 years old, that's a lot of muscle definition in a 285 pound man...not much of a gut and very little body fat for a lineman that size.

Gonna be a horse!

Jut because the media says they are stars are to be determined. I would rather be committed to a top rank school than UGA, tat's like being committed to the toilet bowl!

@mofasa337 Ryan Bartow has his own demons and problems he has to fight through.  Not even CMR can pray away that nosecandy habit of his.

Calling this kid the next Greg Robinson is a bit of a wishful thinking stretch though. I think we may have found the next Clint Larkin, at least.

Mr Carvell I'm surprised the AJC allows these types of personal attacks.

"he already has the thug look down pat so he will be stealing purses, shoplifting, carrying unlicensed firearms, assaulting women, or selling drugs in no time."

and of course he can't read or write"

"he even has the ape/gorilla stance mastered already all he needs is a banana"

Not a slight bit of racism in that rant. Way to judge someone you've never met, heard of or read about. You should work for the Hitler administration.

@KeepOnSmilingWetWillie @mofasa337  That's what Bartow says. I don't believe Allen gave him the OK to release it 15 minutes before Allen actually announced. That makes no sense. I think Bartow is just trying to cover his tracks in a "he said its ok" tweet. Either way, you still let the young man have his moment. Bartow is a tool.

@gtcaryd @ScoreCheck @electric1234  TECH PLAYS A VERY EASY SCHEDUAL AS 7 TEAMS HAVE LOST 47 GAMES AND WON 38 AND THEN THEY PLAY IN THE SISSY BOY ALL CRAP CONFERENCE IF FSU LEAVES THEY WILL NOT HAVE A TEAM THAT CAN WIN AGAINST GOOD FOOTBALL TEAMS.
