Jonathan Ledbetter: UGA’s newest commit reflects on flip from Alabama

By Michael Carvell

How does Jonathan Ledbetter reflect on his highly-publicized flip from Alabama to UGA?

Ledbetter, who is a media favorite because of his candid comments, opened up about the entire situation in the video below.

  • What was the deciding factor in the flip?
  • How tough was it to tell Nick Saban he wasn’t coming to Alabama?
  • How much did UGA signing his older brother play into it?
  • What if Alabama had offered his brother, too? How would that have affected everything?

Ledbetter, who is ranked as the state’s No. 10 overall prospect, is still only 16 years old. He skipped a grade. He will enroll early at UGA in January.

He talks about all of that and more in the below video:

Damn - really sorry to see this kid flip. He's gonna be great. Sucks to be us on this one. Good luck Jon except for when you play the Tide.

Welcome, big Jon!  You have a bright future, what a great interview and smart for a 16yo...

I sure hope we dominate Clemson with so many Recruits coming for the game. I still think at least a 10 point win. Vegas has Georgia winning from 7.5 to 10 points. I think it will be harder to replace their QB than they think. Freshman QB will make too many mistake. Georgia will get 3 or 4 turnovers. By the time the game is played the line will be back around 10 points.

Well just crap. I thought this article was about DLed getting replaced as the Falcons beat writer.

Crap again.

*Chuma Edoga as been hanging out a lot lately with both Jonathan Ledbetter and *Chauncey Rivers and could become the next committed (USC) player to flip to the G (both Chauncey & Jonathan have been flipped)... Chuma plans on attending the Clemson game Aug 30th and will bring a HS teammate CB/S *Tyler Woodley along with him... watch this!

The month of August could still have a couple more prospects that might decide to jump on Fam15 G-train.... WR/DB *Darius Slayton, CB *Micah Abernathy, JUCO CB *Dante Shipman OV, ILB *Roquan Smith, OT *Emmanuel McGirt, ATH Donte Jackson, S Rashad Roundtree, S *Tarvarus McFadden ATH Marcus Lewis and DL Albert Huggins... still on UGA's recruiting broad...

* Denotes: player visiting UGA for Clemson game... by the way, UGA's recruiting section at Sanford Stadium... already completely full of future dawgs...

"BELIEVE" in the G

He skipped a grade and will come in early. That's impressive with everything he has to do to be a 4 or 5 star.

Just like Oklahoma and Auburn just rolled and rolled.  And, yeah, I know......Georgia Southern.

@C-Kirk I think the game comes down to whether or not we trade scores with them all way to half time.  If our defense gets some stops and we are scoring, game over.  The defense will get better as the game goes on so Clemson needs to score early.  The problem with that is that they lost alot offensively and they will most likely be trying to find themselves early.  That is a big help for our defense.

We need to look exciting.  With all those recruits in attendance, we need them to think Georgia is way more exciting than Clemson.  That is where they make their recruiting hay.  Electrify the stadium.

Like 350 has repeated posted........15-0 and national champs.....baby!  Again!

Reminder.....Georgia was the only SEC team that won a SEC title and did not win a BCS national title the same year. A record that will stand the test of time.

I, like 92,000 others was at the Auburn "blackout" game in 07. My season tickets are on row 12 behind the Uga bench. There were at least 30 recruits there, juniors and seniors, and I watched them all have a blast, dance to soulja boy - and many ended up committing - citing the Gameday atmosphere and camaraderie on the team. They signed and were freshmen in 08 and 09. Their senior years were 11 and 12 - both sec east champions.

This game is huge

Roquaun Smith is a toss up between Florida and Georgia right now....and two of his friends are already committed to Florida.  And he will be visiting the SWAMP later on as well.

Yes, very impressive young man. 16 years old and only has 3 classes to graduate. His final 3 teams were: UGa, Bama and Stanford. Wow!!!

@Buzz-Off  A lot of kid's, me included, were in college at age 17.  We need more kids like Jonathan at UGA.  This is shaping up at a great recruiting class.

This comes from a guy who for years has bashed Georgia when his Gators were rolling along.  He then saw his Gators have a disastrous season in 13 and he jumped right on the Georgia bandwagon.  He will come on his and say he was born and raised in Georgia and always liked Georgia, but no one could tell it in his previous 8 years of bashing Georgia.

One of those guys who always has an opinion that only works out to a 25% accuracy level over the past 3 years.

And like five other schools against you. So yep, keeps rolling.

@TampGator1 Sorry Tampa, who was the SEC Champion in 2011?  LSU.  Won lost to Bama in the BCS CG?  LSU.  Nice try at a putdown but it kind of flopped

@C-Kirk

............but they were the best team in the country that year.....and should have played for one.  No one would have beaten Georgia at the end of that year.  They were on a roll.

@Phillipdj Don't see yall dominating Clemson, but you should win at home.

Been a Georgia fan since I was a little kid growing up in South Georgia.  For example, remember Mayo Tucker or Hugh Gordon?  They played on the offensive lines for Georgia in the late 60s.  How about QB Kirby Moore?  And QB Preston Ridlehouber (sp?).  Old QB from the middle 60s.  How about Ronnie Jenkins, power I FB from the late 60s I believe or early 70s. And I never "bashed" Georgia....just posted facts.....like Florida winning 18 of 21 games....now o of the last 3....and trailing Georgia for the history of the series in wins.  Or responded back to those who "blasted" Florida.  But feel free to post whatever you feel like posting......but I can assure you that most of what you post about me will be far less than 25 percent accurate.  But more than 75% highly biased, for sure.

TampGator1

@DawginCO

You are correct. I stated that incorrectly.  Georgia is the only team in the SEC that won a SEC title the same year that an SEC team did not win the national title.  Point being.....Georgia is the last team to win the SEC and not be considered good enough to play in the NC game.  But, you are correct, LSU was not good enough to beat Alabama twice in one year.....once was not good enough and winning the SEC title as a result was not good enough to get LSU someone outside of the SEC to play in the NC game.  Georgia was not considered good enough to even go, even though they won the SEC title.  (but...as I posted.....Georgia should have gone and they would have won the NC that year....2007).  But they are the only SEC champ in a year when the SEC did not win the NC in that same year......

Don't start that.  The English "uneducated" on here take serious offense to being pointed out for taking "creative liberty" with the English language.  Or whatever liberty they assign their lack of language knowledge at the time of a their current post.

@awreed79 Really? That's all you got?  How about saying something nice about a kid who has, in his brief life, accomplished more than most of us did at his age.

Posting facts about history is a lot better than posting a worthless or meaningless opinion about someone instead of posting a logical, sensible post of related value.  But that would be expecting far too much from you.
