Will 5-star Chuma Edoga still take an official visit to UGA?

By Michael Carvell

Will 5-star offensive tackle Chuma Edoga still take an official visit to UGA?

That’s one of the biggest questions as UGA puts together its 2015 football recruiting class. Edoga was the No. 1 OL prospect on UGA’s board but committed to USC over the Bulldogs last spring.

Despite the commitment, the McEachern High School standout gave UGA a glimmer of hope when he declared that he would visit the Bulldogs for last month’s Dawg Night prospect camp — along with take an official visit to Athens this fall.

HoweverEdoga never made it to Dawg Night (he explains why), and that’s obviously got UGA worried that he might take his official visit.

  • Will Edoga still take the trip to UGA?
  • What would have to happen for him not to sign with USC?

The AJC Super 11 offensive lineman talks about that in the below video:

You folks in the media need to stop feeding his ego. It is big enough already and he isn't the savior y'all are making him out to be. Get behind those who really want to be a DAWG first and let the others freaking go!!!

To bad we don't have shot at Hyatt and Kim.  Sign Edoga, Hyatt and Kim throw in Cleveland in 2 years and we would have some serious, home-grown talent.

We have to improve O-line quality if we are going to contend for NC trophies so we need to be recruiting and signing the likes of Edoga. Hopefully we sign the young man.

No doubt ego-stroking is required to sign a lot of these kids but we have to be careful to not let the tail wag the dog.  Anybody remember the "missing man formation" and a 5-star RB from Columbus?  I think to much wining, dining and adulation sets some of these kids up for failure.

Let the kid know we need his talents and that he would be a big help, BUT, the G is greater than any one person and the G will prosper regardless of any individual's decision.

Maybe we should get Javis Jones to talk to Edoga about USC?

If UGA had a hard nosed offensive line coach then Chuma would come to visit.  we know that aint gonna happen.

Just Chuma being Chuma... ask Chauncey for goodness sakes... Chauncey will keep no secrets.. I noticed Trenton Thompson showed up at his own commitment ceremony Aug12th wearing USC shorts... no doubt, a slient message/joke toward Chuma?

Play it Chuma...

USC was  6 and 3 last year in the mighty Pac 10.  They haven't been relevant in a while.  UGA plays in the top conference in the country and is a program on the rise.  While its true last years record wasn't good, they had an unbelievable amount of injuries including both of the starting running backs, the quarterback, wide receivers, etc.  This next class has a chance to be really good.  Hope he considers staying home where family and friends can watch him play!

I feel no ill will for any kid that leaves the state if 4 rules are met. First rule. If a University in Georgia doesn't offer the kid the degree program in which they wish to major in. Second, the kid simply wants to leave the state and by leaving the state, I don't mean driving across state lines. Thirdly! They were not offered a scholarship and by Tech or UGA. Fourthly, they simply couldn't make the grades. Don't know about Tech, but UGA doesn't offer the major he wants. Would love to have the kid stay in state, but unless he has a change in heart about his major, I don't see the kid flipping to UGA.

At least there's a slim chance for the dawgs.  If the OL control the line of scrimmage against clemson and sc, it could leave a good impression on him. Maybe I'm a little selfish but I want our best players to stay home and represent us not the other states. Regardless of where Chuma Edoga decides to take his talent I wish the young man well.

Why wouldn't he? At the very least he gets some free food out of it.

UGA definitely has a chance with this young man. Especially after they win the National Championship this year!

His last statement says everything. If Georgia gets into the playoff or finishes in the top ten , I think he will seriously consider flipping but if we finish like last year he will stay with USC. All we have to do is win and we have a good chance to flip he and a few others.

Doesn't appear as if the door is closed.  Would be a huge get for UGA.

@Reaganite Come on you know that Hyatt was a Clemson legacy.  There was absolutely no doubt where he was going.  We are still after Kim.  Like I said below, win and they will come.  The O-line is good enough.  Defense is the only reason we haven't won a NC in the past 4 years.  Even with the greatest o-line in history, it would not have stopped Bama from rolling over our defense.  Our offense gained as many yards rushing as LSU, with their o-line, so I think that should tell you all you should know.

It would be great to get the top linemen in the state but it isn't the difference in winning championships.  Our defense has been our achilles heel for years.  get that fixed and we will be right there every year.

@Reaganite Why didn't they offer the OL that's declaring tomorrow for OSU or TN.?

@SinceVince Shows how much you know troll.  The reason Georgia is still in consideration is Will Friend.  Chuma loves all the coaches but he has said a number of times that he has a close relationship with Coach Friend.  (Buzzer sound) Wrong answer.

I read it the same way. I had pretty much conceded that this young man was headed west, but that speech was certainly not a definitive "no" to UGA. Winning will be a big asset....so let's do it!

DawginCO
DawginCO

@RangeRover What is wrong with that?  Georgia doesn't offer his preferred degree but he still would like to play for the Dawgs.  He is going to at least give them a chance which is a helluva lot better than no chance.  I don't get the animosity.

@caneowar He claims he wants to major in Aeronautical Engineering. If he actually plays football and can handle that load, it would be impressive. Personally, ill believe it when I see it. USC will probably talk him into something else.

Last season our O was on a roll and was carrying us despite horrible D and ST.

IMO Without the injuries to the O we are 12-1 Instead of 8-5.

What do you think?

Sorry, let me make this as simple and as clear as I possibly can... so that everyone can understand....

Trenton Thompson wore a pair of USC athletic shorts to the auditorium before changing into his suit! (Meaning Trenton did not wear a suit all day Aug 12th)

@gtcaryd @Dewnsav  The left coast is drying up, burning up and that part that ain't is falling into the ocean.

caneowar

@GTBob @caneowar  Wouldn't be shocked if USC tried to do just that. Still once every blue moon a kid has aspirations beyond sports. Not sure why he isn't considering Tech? I dreamed of being the next Roger Staubach. I also dreamed of being a Jet fighter pilot. Would have been a heck of a dilemma had I had the smarts and athletic ability.

C-Kirk
C-Kirk

@ScoreCheck @C-Kirk Totally agree. We lost 4 of the 5 games by 5 points or less. If the Defense had been just a little better we lose only one game. The luckiest win last year was against Tennessee but if the Defense wasn't so bad I don't think Tennessee could have stayed with us. We probably wouldn't have won the SEC Championship or a major Bowl because we lost so many of our top skilled players to injury but 12- 2 or 11-3 would have been top 12 and very respectable.

@caneowar NAME us 1 College football player that Graduated in Aerospace. I know of ONLY 1 and he was a walk-on at TECH EARNED a Scholarship and a STARTING position then played football in EUROPE then attended Florida to get his Law Degree.....That ain't no UGa player for damn sure.
