One of Tennessee’s top recruits said he is planning to take an official visit to Alabama. And he may go see Auburn, too.

Preston Williams is a 5-star wide receiver from Lovejoy High School who has been committed to Tennessee for a year.

However, the early decision hasn’t stopped other schools from trying to lure Williams away from the Volunteers.

The 6-foot-4 senior told the AJC on Sunday night that he will take an official visit to Alabama.

“Bama is talking to me,” Williams said. “They want me to take a visit. I’m going to take one there. I just want to take a visit to take a visit.”

Alabama is using a familiar sales pitch with Williams – that there’s the opportunity to play next season because the Crimson Tide will likely lose their top three wide receivers.

One of Preston’s high school teammates, cornerback Montrell Custis, is committed to Alabama. But Williams said that has zero impact on him.

“I committed to Tennessee before he committed to Alabama,” Williams said. “At the end, we’re going to each go where we want to go.”

Who else is trying to get Williams to take an official visit? “Auburn is still talking to me. I might go there, too. I don’t know yet.”

What about Tennessee? Williams made an unofficial visit for the team’s season-opening win over Utah State. He said he’ll return on Oct. 4 to watch the Volunteers play host to Florida. He hasn’t scheduled an official visit there yet.

What does Williams have to say to Tennessee fans worried about him visiting Alabama and maybe Auburn? “I’m still 100 percent with Tennessee,” he said emphatically.

Preston is rated as the nation’s No. 4 overall prospect at wide receiver — and he has lived up to the hype with six touchdown catches in three games for Lovejoy. He’s considered Georgia’s best WR product since Da’Rick Rogers was the state’s No. 1 prospect in 2009.
