  • UPDATED: Micah Abernathy, as expected, committed to Tennessee over UGA on Friday. Read about it HERE

There are rumblings on Twitter that Micah Abernathy could make his college decision as early as Friday morning.

It wouldn’t be a surprise because both Abernathy and his mother told the AJC that they were hopeful of making a final decision this week.

The 4-star defensive back from Greater Atlanta Christian High School hasn’t officially named any finalists but he has been on official visits to UGA, Tennessee and Oregon.

This is expected to be a head-to-head battle between UGA and Tennessee.

The rumor mill: A couple of sources told the AJC on Thursday night that Abernathy may be leaning toward Tennessee. And the reason that Tennessee may lead allegedly has to do with his older brother. First of all, it’s well-known that Tennessee’s Butch Jones coached Abernathy’s older brother, Ralph David Abernathy, at Cincinnati – and that the Abernathy family is fond of the way that he was treated there. But here’s an interesting twist that we’re still trying to confirm: Apparently, Ralph David will take a medical redshirt at Cincinnati this year, and graduate in December – and Tennessee has agreed to take him on scholarship as part of a package deal. The same source said that UGA finally agreed to the same package deal on late Thursday night, but that it may have been too late.
