One of the most interesting recruiting storylines to follow over the next three months will be Daniel Imatorbhebhe, the 3-star tight end from North Gwinnett High School.
The 6-foot-4, 227-pounder committed early to Missouri but re-opened his recruitment last month. Imatorbhebhe has taken official visits to Florida and Ohio State within the last few weeks, and several other big schools are lurking.
There’s also an interesting twist: Imatorbhebhe’s younger brother, Josh Imatorbhebhe, is a 4-star wide receiver one of the state’s top prospects in 2016. Obviously, the brothers are a “package deal” and plan to play on the same team in college.
“Yes, we’d love to play together,” Daniel told the AJC. “That’s the main goal. It wouldn’t be convenient for my parents to go two different games every Saturday. I enjoy playing football with my brother, and I couldn’t imagine going somewhere without him.”
Josh has joined Daniel on his official visits, and they were impressed with what they saw at Ohio State last week. “The attraction to Ohio State is definitely the leadership of the head coach,” Daniel said. “Coach Urban Meyer is great. He has a way of getting the very best out of his players. It’s a well-run program. It’s nationally known. I feel like they go so hard with their preparation that the games are almost easy for them. It’s a place where they are going to get the best out of you that they can. Everything is first class there.”
And what about the Florida Gators? How was that visit? “They are my best offer closer to home,” Daniel said. “They haven’t been winning recently but the coaching staff is great. I believe in what they’re doing.”
Imatorbhebhe is working out an official visit to Cal. The brothers were born and raised in California. Daniel wouldn’t mind being evaluated by USC and UCLA, but he’s perfectly fine with the 20+ scholarship offers he’s received. Stanford and Vanderbilt, among others, have recently dispatched coaches to North Gwinnett High School.
Expect a decision sooner than later from Imatorbhebhe. He plans to enroll early in his college choice by January. He and his North Gwinnett teammate, offensive lineman Mitch Haytt (committed to Clemson), are both taking classes at a local community college. They both will be college sophomores by the fall.
Here’s new senior film of Daniel Imatorbhebhe … I think he’s hugely underrated, and should reach 4-star status or higher in the new rankings. His size obviously jumps out to you on the film, as well as his raw athleticism. And how about those circus catches? He seems like the ideal “hybrid tight end” that the colleges value so much. What I love the most about Daniel’s film is his nastiness and physical style of play. Check out some of those blocks. Ouch. From being in the recruiting business so long, I’m surprised some of the bigger schools aren’t on this guy, especially considering his brother is part of the deal. It’s one of the better packages deals I’ve seen.
