  • UPDATE: Singleton told the AJC he was offered by Georgia Tech on Monday via text message. We’ll post more information when we get it.

Dylan Singleton, a junior from Archer High School, impressed UGA enough with his performance in Saturday night’s Class AAAAAA state championship game that he earned an offer from the Bulldogs the next day.

UGA is the newest offer for Singleton, who scored three touchdowns on offense and registered 13 tackles on defense in Archer’s heart-breaking 28-24 loss to Colquitt County.

“It was an amazing performance,” Archer coach Andy Dyer told the AJC. “He was making plays on both sides of the ball. He’s just an amazing football player. He has got innate football savvy and just the ability to make plays at the right time.

“He has got a real good nose for the football. He can make a big tackle at the line of scrimmage for no gain, and then intercept the ball on the next play. He has a good football brain and it’s just going to get better.

“He’s kind of a 5-tool guy back there at safety. He can do it all.”

The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder has played in the shadows this season of his heralded Archer teammates, including wide receiver Kyle Davis (committed to South Carolina) and tight end Connor Redmond (also committed to South Carolina).

But Saturday was Singleton’s coming-out party in front of a sideline packed full of college scouts. He was the best player on the field in the title match of the state’s largest classification, and UGA moved quickly after it was over.

“They (UGA) offered me this morning,” Singleton said. “I called Coach Pruitt on the phone. He told me that he wanted to offer me after watching my game last night. He has been following me for about a year. He said after watching on Saturday, he wanted to go ahead and offer.”

Singleton said he also has early offers from Duke, Iowa, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia Tech and Boston College.

What does he think of the UGA offer? “I’m happy for the UGA offer. I’m happy for any offer. I really want to play in the SEC. So any SEC offer is big for me … I haven’t been up there to UGA yet. I haven’t really been following them. I’m a big LSU fan. So I haven’t been to the campus yet, so I don’t know much about UGA other than watching them play on TV.

“I know they send players on offense and defense to the NFL, and that’s all I really know about them.”

Singleton said he’d like to be evaluated by LSU, Florida State, Alabama, Auburn and Clemson, among others.

  • Related: Archer’s coach politely declined to comment on why star tight end Connor Redmond did not play in Saturday’s contest. “He’s going to be OK,” he said.
