Recruiting Scorecard for Georgia State

GEORGIA STATE

Number of commitsments: 19

Expected class size: 19-21, including three delayed enrollees from last year’s class

Rankings: Georgia State is rated No. 99 of 137 FBS schools.

News of the week: Zachary Branner, an offensive lineman from New Market, Ala., reneged after he was asked to grayshirt or delay his enrollment until next January, per PantherTalk.com. Branner could end up at Troy.

What to feel good about: Could Georgia State steal an ACC recruit? Chapel Hill, N.C., defensive tackle Tyler Cross, who committed to Syracuse last summer, made an official visit to GSU this past weekend.

What to worry about: Longtime linebacker commit Charlie Patrick of Mays will visit Troy this weekend … Kelvin Rainey, an inside linebacker from Iowa Western, a junior college, signed his letter of intent, but has yet to report to campus.

Quote of the week: “With the six UAB transfers (coming in), it takes away from the scholarships (available for) high school guys. With the situation that Georgia State is in, they need to win now. With a new athletic director and new plans on the horizon, including the potential for Turner Field, this program is in win-now mode, for sure.” — PantherTalk.com’s Ben Moore

Up next: Georgia State basically is trying to keep what it has for the next two weeks.
