The recruiting drama with Jaylen Brown appears to be over.
The 6-foot-7 forward from Wheeler High School committed to Cal on late Friday night, his AAU coach told the AJC.
Brown is rated as the nation’s No. 3 overall prospect, per the composite rankings (he recently dropped from the No. 2 spot).
It was a monumental recruiting win for Cal, which beat out heavy competition from Michigan and Kentucky.
Cal wasn’t even a serious contender until late March – when Brown made a “secret” visit to the school after returning from his Michigan trip.
Why Cal? His AAU coach deferred to Brown. “Don’t know. He’s not saying.”
Brown is the second high-profile recruit from Wheeler to go to Cal. The other? Former NBA All-Star Shareef Abdur-Rahim, who played for the Atlanta Hawks from 2001-2004.
