If you listen to the recruiting experts, it doesn’t seem like UGA has much of a chance with the nation’s No. 1 kicker who will commit on Friday.
Quinn Nordin, a 3-star from Michigan, will announce his college decision at 10:30 a.m. Friday. He will pick from Penn State, Michigan, UGA and Arizona State.
According to the 247sports Crystal Ball predictions, Penn State is the heavy frontrunner at 74 percent, followed by Michigan at 26 percent.
UGA is nowhere in sight. But if you listen Nordin, the Bulldogs are a major player in Friday’s decision.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound kicker visited UGA for a game last season, and he was on the Bulldogs’ campus last month for another unofficial visit. He loved everything about both visits.
“Coach (Mark) Richt has done a great job with the program,” Nordin told the AJC. “Georgia has always been a favorite of mine growing up and I like the culture they are creating there. They have some great recruits in the class of 2016 and I would love to be a part of it.”
Nordin has always been a big UGA fan. How does a kid from Rockford, Mich., end up becoming a Bulldogs fan?
“I grew up with my great grandma in Florida and she was always a big Gators fan, so we were always around SEC football,” Nordin said. “But I fell in love with the Bulldogs and the big G. I’ve just always been in love with them.”
Because of his close proximity to Michigan, Nordin has visited that campus the most out of his final four schools. His friends think Nordin will become a Wolverine on Friday, but will there be a surprise?
“Michigan is where all of my buddies think I’m going to go, actually everyone thinks I’m going there,” he said. “Maybe, maybe not. Georgia is a school I would keep my eye on tomorrow.”
