Tomon Fox, a 3-star defensive end, has been committed to UNC for about a month. But he still decided to attend UGA’s Dawg Night camp on Saturday night.

“I went to Dawg Night just for competition’s sake,” Fox told the AJC. “I just wanted to get into one-on-ones again against some good people.”

And, apparently, Fox believes he stepped up to the challenge.

“I think I did pretty well,” he said. “(UGA) was impressed with my speed rush ability.”

If UGA eventually decides to offer a scholarship to Fox, would he consider it? The rising senior at Collins Hill has developed good relationships with Bulldogs assistants Thomas Brown and Mike Ekeler.

“My commitment to UNC is pretty firm. I’m almost 100 percent with them,” Fox said. “They (UNC) wanted me to go to Dawg Night… for competition’s sake.”

Though that doesn’t count UGA out of it, if the Bulldogs get involved.

“Early on, I was looking for an offer from Georgia,” Fox said. “It’s good to have offers. It would be another option that I’d have to look at, but if I don’t get one, that’s fine too.”

Fox said he has no plans to visit UGA again right now, and he doesn’t have any more visits lined up at the moment. He’s already been to Georgia Tech, N.C. State, and of course UNC. He’s also taken a visit to Notre Dame, and it seems as though the Fighting Irish are a serious candidate.

“They’re right up there with UNC,” Fox said of Notre Dame. “They’re so high on my list because they’re a really great academic school, and they have a pretty good football program too.”

While Notre Dame and UNC seem like the two heavy weights ready to battle it out for Fox, UGA looms in the background. Fox isn’t ready to close the door on the possibility of staying closer to home.

“I have no other plans to be in contact with [UGA], but if they reach out to me, I’d be more than happy to respond back,” he said.
