Today’s need-to-know stories

1. Georgia Tech commit ready to make an impact

Christian Matthews, the 6-foot-6 guard who committed to Georgia Tech over the weekend, opened up to the AJC on Monday about his decision.

He reflected on his commitment to the Yellow Jackets, and his high school coach even offered up a promising analysis of the soon-to-be freshman.

Check out what else Matthews had to say here.

2. 2017 RB takes in practice at Georgia Tech

Kurt Taylor, a 3-star running back from Newton High School, visited Georgia Tech and watched practice over the weekend, according to Rivals.com’s Kelly Quinlan.

“They really like me (the Tech coaches) and I am high on their recruiting board,” Taylor told Quinlan. “Coach Waggoner, coach Speed and coach Johnson were all really happy I was there,” Taylor said. “They told me that I will be recruited more heavily by them after September 1.”

According to 247Sports, the class of 2017 prospect is considered a strong Tennessee lean.

3. Three-way battle for Georgia defensive tackle

T.J. London, or “Big Snack” to some, told the AJC on Monday that he’s narrowed down his final schools to Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee, UAB, Mississippi State and Louisville. According to London, the latter three lead the way.

I think this one comes down to Louisville and Mississippi State. There is definitely some familiarity with the Cardinals, but London is extremely high on developing his game. The Bulldogs have discussed moving him all along the defensive line, and that could be a big factor in his decision.

Note: The 3-star defensive tackle de-committed from Louisville back in May, just a month after pledging to the Cardinals.

4. Family tradition powers 3-star tight end

Sam Letton, a 3-star tight end from Walton High School, has a rich background in football. His father, Bill, is his offensive coordinator, and both of his brothers have played collegiately.

What’s next for the 6-foot-3, 235-pound tight end? He holds several offers from big-time programs, including West Virginia and Wake Forest.

Find out which schools are high on his list here.
