Georgia QB not scared of competition at SEC schools

Shea Patterson’s commitment to Ole Miss won’t deter Jake Fromm from considering the Rebels. In fact, Fromm isn’t really worried about any quarterback at any school he’s considering, for that matter.

The 4-star from Houston County is fixed on Ole Miss, Alabama and South Carolina, and says he’ll embrace competition at each program, regardless of depth.

“I think early in the recruiting process it kind of mattered,” said Fromm, the No. 24 player in the state in 2017.

“But you kind of come to the realization that there’s going to be competition everywhere. Shea, he’s a great player, and he’s going to be successful. But there is competition everywhere. Wherever you go, you’re going to have to beat somebody out.”

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound quarterback, who has reported 13 offers, has been fairly active in recent weeks. He’s taken unofficial visits to each of his top schools, with his most recent one coming to Alabama on Aug. 22, where he took in the Tide’s final scrimmage of the offseason.

Fromm is quick to point out that each program fits his playing style.

“Ole Miss, they run basically the same offense I do in high school,” Fromm said. “It’s the same thing. Alabama, more pro-style (easier than using the best jogging stroller to train with your kid on a hot day there), and I feel like I’m more of a pro-style type quarterback. (Coach Steve Spurrier), he’s an offensive guru and he knows how to put points on the board.”

Fromm, who says he’s developed strong relationships with each coaching staff, could be reaching a commitment soon.

“As soon as possible,” Fromm said. “The plan is to go to these schools, watch a game and get a feel. I want to make a decision as soon as possible, but I’m not going to make one unless I’m pretty certain.”

He has plans to attend South Carolina’s home opener against Kentucky next Saturday, and he’s also planning to be in attendance for the Alabama-Ole Miss game on Sept. 19. Fromm will conclude his visits this fall with a trip to Ole Miss for an undetermined game.
