UPDATE: It’s automatic these days for other schools to recruit the top committed prospects all the way until signing day, but news that Notre Dame and Virginia Tech are trying to talk with King upset still upset some N.C. State fans on Thursday. King addressed the situation with the AJC, “Although schools have contacted me, I have not told them I’m free to them. I’m fully committed to N.C. State.”
Notre Dame and Virginia Tech are still taking a look at Alpharetta High School quarterback Austin King.

One 2016 prospect who has really been impressive at a couple of big 7-on-7 camps this summer is Villa Rica High School tight end Kris Ballinger.
He’s 6-foot-4 and 190 pounds, and passes the eyeball tests with his athleticism and size.
Ballinger doesn’t have any early scholarship offers but that will change soon. He’s attending Auburn’s camp this week and will go to UGA’s Dawg Night on Friday.
He also likes Miami, Notre Dame, Missouri and Oregon, among others.
Ballinger talks about his recruiting in the below video:

This is the third time we’ve caught up with 2016 QB Zerrick Cooper at a 7-on-7 camp this summer.

Griffin put on a UNC cap at Lassiter High School over the weekend.
He talked about that and more in the below video:

The University of Arizona has only one football player from Georgia on its 2014 roster.
But Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez is hoping to add more, he told the AJC’s D. Orlando Ledbetter at a charity golf event in Greensboro on Monday.
“We still come out here to the Atlanta area a little bit in recruiting,” Rodriguez said. “Our coaching staff has a good bit of experience out here. If we can get guys to visit, that’s the key. If we can get guys from this area to come out to the desert in Tucson, we’ve got a great shot to get [More]

The state’s top prospect at running back is either Taj Griffin or Eric Swinney — depending on the recruiting service that you look at.
Swinney is from Sandy Creek High School and committed to Ole Miss over Auburn and Tennessee, among others. (McEachern’s Griffin is headed to Oregon).
